Kenneth Hull Obituary
Hull
Kenneth Preston, III
November 6, 1968 – January 1, 2025
Kenneth Preston ("Kenny") Hull, III of Collegeville, PA, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, following a courageous and steadfast battle with cancer, marked by his strength and unwavering hope. He was 56 years old.
Kenny was born in Wynnewood, PA, the son of Kenneth P. ("Ken") Jr. and Millicent A. ("Penny") Hull, and grew up in Swarthmore, PA. He graduated from Strath Haven High School where he excelled as a three-sport athlete, setting both school and county records as a quarterback in football, earning a McDonald's All-American Honorable Mention in basketball, and was a star pitcher and hitter in baseball. Furthermore, Kenny was unique in that he was one of only a few student athletes ever to receive All Central League Honors in three sports, for three consecutive years. Off the playing fields, he excelled in academics, earning the prestigious Harvard Prize Book Award given to an outstanding student who displays excellence in scholarship and high character. This award was the capstone to a stellar academic performance in which he graduated among the top students in his class.
Kenny was awarded an athletic scholarship to Duke University and was a member of the Blue Devils football team for all four years which included a trip to the 1989 All-American Bowl. Kenny graduated from Duke with a B.A. in Political Science and History in 1991. He later earned an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1995.
In 1998, Kenny met Mary Coverdale at the Artful Dodger Tavern in Olde City Philadelphia during a night in which each of them was out socializing with friends. He was intrigued by her blue eyes, beautiful smile and fun-loving spirit. After closing time that night, Kenny called his younger brother to tell him that it was love at first sight. This turned out to be true, as they were married in August of 2001, in a beautiful ceremony in historic Old Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Philadelphia. During their 23 plus years together, Kenny and Mary enjoyed spending time with their legions of mutual friends, biking, enjoying tropical vacations, visiting Ocean City, NJ and generating an abundance of laughs. They built a warm and inviting home in Collegeville, PA, where they raised three wonderful children.
Kenny lived for his children, Katie (21), Preston (19) and Trevor (16), and always enjoyed coaching and volunteering for their many sports and activities. Some of these activities included serving as an Upward Basketball coach, Upward Flag Football coach, an Audubon Recreation Association (ARA) Girls Travel Basketball coach and assistant coach, ARA Boys Baseball coach, and Visitation BVM Boys Basketball assistant coach. He was particularly proud of each of his children's many accomplishments, of which there were many. Kenny reinforced the importance of hard work, generosity and compassion in each of his children, which they display with grace, courage and dignity.
Kenny was a favorite uncle to his nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to him as "Uncle Turkey". His sense of humor, devotion and sincerity earned him that position and nickname. One of Kenny's favorite places was Piseco Lake in the Adirondacks where he had spent time every summer. At Piseco, Kenny kept the fun going with his kids and their cousins all day long with extended rounds of water skiing, water baseball, tubing, king of the raft and sailing. He was also known to sneak a few candy fireballs to some of his nieces and nephews. He was always the first and last person in the lake. He taught everyone who visited the lake house who wanted to learn to ski and would not stop teaching until that person successfully made it up on skis.
When Kenny was not at the lake or on the sidelines, the stands of his children's events or on a golf course, he enjoyed being surrounded by friends. Kenny cherished his lifelong childhood friends from Swarthmore and Wallingford whom he loved like brothers, along with his Duke family, and more recently his neighbors and friends in his community. His calendar was often full of dinners out, sporting events, attending one another's various children's activities, pilgrimages to Durham, NC to catch a home football game, hosting friends at RiverCrest Golf Club and just hanging out and catching up with his buddies. Throughout his life, Kenny knew that he could always count on this beloved group of friends through thick and thin.
Outside of his family life, Kenny enjoyed a very successful professional career. He joined IntePros in 2000, a recruiting solutions and staffing company, after spending the prior 9 years at H.L. Yoh Company. At IntePros, he served in several leadership positions and was most recently company President. According to his colleagues, his influence on them was immeasurable. He believed in what each of them could accomplish, often seeing their potential before they themselves did. Through his coaching, mentorship, humor and unwavering support, he elevated each of them, leaving them all better for having known him. In recognition of Kenny's many contributions, the company recently created an annual leadership award, aptly titled the "Ken Hull Leadership Award."
Kenny will be remembered as a humble, caring, and dedicated husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend and co-worker who will be sorely missed. His positive impact on all who knew him will be permanent and profound. As one of his friends recently recounted, "He was someone we all looked up to and respected. He always figured out what he wanted, went after it, and achieved it. AND, he always did it the right way!"
In addition to his wife Mary, Kenny is survived by his mother Penny, his father Ken, his daughter Katherine A. "Katie" Hull, sons Kenneth "Preston" Hull IV, and Trevor J. Hull, and his brothers Charles K. "Chad" Hull (Elizabeth W.) and Bradford K. "Corey" Hull (Dianne S.), as well as 13 nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Kenny's services and are encouraged to add something ROYAL BLUE to their attire to represent his beloved alma mater, Duke University, and to symbolize colorectal cancer awareness.
