Paul Long Obituary

Paul W. Long, 86, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Ambler, PA transitioned to his new home in Heaven on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Souderton Mennonite Homes. He was the loving husband of the late Esther (Cassel) Long for 61 years. Paul was born in Salfordville, PA to the late Henry W. Long and the late Annie (Benner) Long. He attended the Franconia School / Souderton High School. Paul worked as presser at the former Sun-lite shop in Souderton, PA. He then worked in retail sales for the former Longacre Poultry market as well as other farmer's markets in the Wayne, Olney, and Germantown areas. Paul was a licensed chaplain for the Prison Ministry under Liberty Ministries in Schwenksville, PA. He was a co-founder and lifetime member of Ambler Mennonite Church where he served in many capacities including Sunday school teacher, Youth group leader, Bible school director, and songleader. Paul and Esther directed a Senior Week at Camp Hebron in Halifax, PA for 30 years. They also did volunteer work at Bethany Birches Camp in Vermont. In his younger years, Paul enjoyed photography and spending time at Camp Hebron. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed their family gatherings. Paul was passionate and greatly enjoyed his prison ministry where he was affectionately nicknamed: Hug 'Em All Paul. He enjoyed singing, songleading, working on puzzles, and writing devotions and sermons. Paul loved doing the devotions for the residents of the Souderton Mennonite Home. He was a faithful, devoted, kind, caring man who was a humble servant and always put others first. Paul is survived by his four sons, Kenneth Long & wife, Meredith of Lansdale, PA, Keith Long & wife, Pamela of Lansdale, PA, Kevin Long & wife, Mary of Warrington, PA, & Mark Malone of Kahului, HI; his 11 grandchildren – Stephen, Tiffany, Scott, Katelyn, Yvonne, Alex, Greg, Adam "AJ", Mary, Kierié, Colton; his 18 great-grandchildren – Abigail, Stephen, Juliana, Gabriella, Micah, Joshua, Emelia, Caleb, Owen, Rory, Rosalyn, Calvin, Thatcher, Elias, Declan, Ezra, Carson, Isaac; and his sister, Verna Keeler-Martin of Souderton, PA. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Maria R. Hamu. A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm at Souderton Mennonite Homes, 207 W. Summit Street, Souderton, PA 18964, followed by a funeral service at 3:30 pm. A private burial will take place at Salford Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Liberty Ministries, P.O. Box 87, Schwenksville, PA 19473.
