Ruth Ledger Obituary

Ruth E. Ledger (nee Whitby) of Norristown, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 1, 2025. She was 82 years old. Born May 18, 1943 in Geneva, IL, she was the daughter of the late Reverend C. Ross and Caroline Ada (nee White) Whitby, and the beloved wife of William F. Ledger, whom with she would have celebrated 61 years of marriage this month. Ruth completed the business course at Norristown High School and graduated in 1961. After graduation, she worked as secretary for a neuro-surgeon until her marriage to Bill in 1964. Shortly after the wedding they moved to Alabama where her husband began Air Force service. From1965 to 1972, moves were made to California, South Dakota, Minnesota, Georgia, New Jersey, and back to Norristown. Ruth was a stay-at-home mom until 1989 when she began work for a dental products firm. She retired in 2005 and began helping with the care of five local grandchildren. Ruth's favorite vacation spot was Ocean City, NJ, but she was happy anywhere there was a beach, sand and waves. She liked trips to Florida to visit their first son and his family, with a side trip to attend Phillies spring training and on the way home, maybe stop at the Outer Banks of North Carolina to visit lighthouses and for more beach time. Ruth loved to walk, always trying to complete five to seven thousand steps every day. She enjoyed counter-cross-stitch projects, completing many that were relevant to family activities. Ruth also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, word games, and mahjong on her IPad. Being a "preacher's kid", she never forgot words to old hymns and participated in various church activities. Most of all, Ruth loved her family and was always ready to help, console, or just sit quietly holding a hand and give a hug when needed. In addition to her husband Bill, Ruth is survived by her three sons; William F. Ledger, Jr. (Christine), David T. Ledger (Suzanne), and Keith R. Ledger (Jennifer), seven grandchildren; Heather, Cody, Timothy, Justin, Douglas, James, and Andrea, and her great granddaughter, Ellaina. She was preceded in death by her sister; Kathryn Wilson (the late Steven) and her brother; Thomas Whitby (the late Linda). Relatives and friends are invited to share in Ruth's Life Celebration on Thursday June 12, from 9 AM to 9:50 AM at Boyd-Horrox-Givnish of East Norriton, 200 West Germantown Pike, 610-277-7000. Her Funeral Service will begin at 10 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
