Susan Redline Obituary
Susan J. Redline passed away at her cottage in Moravian Village on June 20, 2025 from pancreatic and liver cancer. She was the loving and dedicated daughter of Charles and Marion (Muhr) Redline. Born and raised in Bethlehem, she attended Bethlehem Area Schools and graduated from Liberty High School in 1964 and Bloomsburg State Teachers College in 1968. Susan taught school in the U.S. for 36 years, except for one year when she was awarded a Fulbright as an exchange teacher in Scotland. Throughout teaching, she received Masters Degrees in Elementary Education as a Reading Specialist, and in Administration with a Principals Certificate. While she was in Scotland, she was honored to be presented to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. She traveled all over England, Scotland and Wales. Long breaks took her to Paris, Amsterdam during the Tulip Festival, and East and West Berlin. After the school year was completed in 1972 she traveled by herself throughout Europe, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Vienna and Salzburg during Music Festivals, Italy Germany, and Iceland. It was suggested because of her love of travel and great organizational skills that she lead group trips. Her first class deluxe tours began with Boston, Williamsburg, Niagra Falls, and Toronto. Others were Alaska (twice), Hawaii, all of the National Parks out west, the California Coast, Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, through the Panama Canal, plus many cruises. Susan loved life and adventure. How pleased she was that her loving mother was her roommate on so many of her trips! Personally, Susan had so many other adventures in life. She met many dignitaries along the way which led her to establish an extensive autographed book collection. Some of her favorite adventures were going to the Dolphin Research Center in Florida to help the dolphins, and appearing as an imposter on "To Tell the Truth" program with Gary Moore in 1972, in which she won three out of four votes. She thoroughly enjoyed working in her parents' pharmacy, Redline Drug Store. Her mother, a great cook and baker, taught her how to make Chocolate Miniatures and nonpareils, which she shared during the holidays and also gave demonstrations. Susan volunteered for Musikfest for many years, was a trolley hostess, and a Moravian docent. She specialized in bus tours. She enjoyed passing out her black-eyed Susans and giant dahlias to those in the Health Care Center at Moravian Village. Susan made sure that there were always flowers at the front desk. She also brought joy to those in the memory unit through presentations on chocolate making and planting flowers. Susan wishes to thank her neighbors Nancy and Dean, and Angie and Larry for their delicious soups and meals. She particularly wants to thank Tracy Patton of Moravian Village for her continued understanding and support. Susan is survived by her brother, Dr. Richard Redline (wife Patricia) of Newton, New Jersey, nephew Britain Redline (children London, August, Maple and Grayson) of Portland, Oregon, and a niece Dr. Whitney Sherman (husband Thomas, and children Blair, Kate, and Brooks) of Conestoga, PA. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 30, in the Pearson Funeral Home, 1901 Linden Street, Bethlehem, with a viewing from 10:00 – 11:00 AM prior to the service. Interment will be in Bethlehem Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Susan's memory may be sent to the Moravian Village Endowment Fund, 526 Wood Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018.
