Ann Marie (Barillaro) Stevens, 79, our family matriarch, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 28, 2025. She was the loving wife of the late John Stevens Sr. for over 56 years. She was born May 20, 1945, to the late Nicholas and Ann Barillaro.
Ann Marie worked for Catholic Charities for many years until her retirement. She previously worked at the Meriden YMCA and worked as an LPN for several years. Also referred to as "Grammy", she was a life-long caretaker. Her generosity knew no limits. Grammy loved her family, especially her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She spent many hours cheering at their hockey games, always their biggest fan. She loved her cats, Angel and Giuseppe. Grammy loved to cook many dishes filled with love and enjoyed by many, including her chowder, jellies, and baked goods. She found so much joy in gifting her beautifully crocheted Afghan blankets and homemade jellies to family and friends. She also had a green thumb; her gardens were beautiful, warranting her many compliments and you would always know which holiday was approaching because of her impeccably decorated front window.
She was a life member of the Wallingford Rod and Gun Club and a member of the Wallingford Elks. She was actively involved with planning her high school reunions and planning the classes' 80th birthday celebration, which she will sadly miss. She enjoyed spending time with friends, going out to lunch, playing Setback and Mahjong at the Senior Center and Thursday "game night".
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Tim Kupec of Wallingford; her son and daughter-in-law, John and Suzanne Stevens Jr. of Killingworth; her loving grandsons, Jake Stevens (Katelyn Marsh), Tyler Stevens and TJ Kupec; her brother-in-law, William Stevens and his wife, Ruth of Durham; many nieces and nephews; and Edward Freeman, Pamela Bridgett and Debra Pilla who she loved like family. In addition to her parents and her husband, she is predeceased by her brothers, Robert and Nicholas Jr.; and her sister-in-law and her husband, Mary Lou and Louis Parisi.
Ann Marie's family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home 809 N. Main Street Ext., on Wednesday, March 5th from 5:00- 7:00pm.
