Bruce Trevethan Obituary

Bruce A. Trevethan, 81, loving husband of Sharon (Zup) Trevethan, for over 61 years, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at the Hospital of Central CT. in New Britain, surrounded by his loving family. Bruce was born in East Lyme, CT., July 6, 1943, a son of the late John Trevethan and Marion (Potts) Trevethan and has been a long-time active Berlin resident. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force and had been employed as an Electrician with IBEW Local 90 until his retirement. Bruce was an active member of the East Berlin Fire Department where he served as president for many years. He was also a great coach within the Berlin Little League for years. It was not uncommon that wherever he was in Berlin, his former players would stop to talk to him as well as thank him for having coached them. He was also an avid sports fan; he spent many days watching the Boston Red Sox and New York Giants with his grandchildren. He would follow his grandchildren to any athletic game they played, no matter how far. He was a member of the Berlin Town Veteran's Commission assisting in helping and honoring all veterans in the town. He also served on the Berlin Town Council where he was a founding member. He will miss his gathering and getting together with his high school friend group since he was the age of 20, and all the unbelievable memories they made. His greatest passion and light of his life on this earth was his family. The love of his life since the age of 15 has been his wife, Sharon. They have been married for 61 years and have built a wonderful life and family together. He is survived by his son Bruce A. Trevethan Jr. who followed in his footsteps making a career in United States Air Force and his long-time companion Cindy. His daughter Robyn Cop who is an avid member of Berlin community and someone who is very passionate about friends, family, and her patients, along-side her husband Richard Cop Jr. who also unselfishly serves the Berlin community. He also leaves his sister Cindy Haggeraty and her husband John; and his brother Thomas Trevethan and his wife Tina. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Ryan Cop and Rylee Cop, who were the twinkle in his eyes and always by his side, as well as a great grandchild Lauren Trevethan, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson Tyler Cop who he spent a lot of time with. Tyler was there with open arms to greet his grandpa into Heaven, where they are laughing together again. Friends and family are invited to calling hours at Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, 96 Main St., Kensington, Monday, January 27, 2025, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held, Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 11 a.m., in St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church, 68 Main St., East Berlin. Interment with military honors will follow in Wilcox Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Bruce may be made to the East Berlin Volunteer Fire Dept., 80 Main St., East Berlin, CT. 06023, or TCop Foundation, 65 Division St., East Berlin, CT. 06023 www.BerlinMemorialFuneralHome.com To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Bruce A.
