Michael Anthony Batayte

Michael Anthony Batayte, 86, of Wethersfield, beloved husband for 50 years of Mary (Hodyl) Batayte, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford on May 30, 1939, son of the late Walter C. Batayte, Jr. and Marguerite M. (Fusco) Batayte, he was raised in Windsor and was a graduate of Windsor High School, Class of 1957. After high school, Michael continued his education at a technical school before taking a position with the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC). Michael worked in several capacities over the years and retired as water treatment specialist at the MDC facility in Rocky Hill. In his spare time, Michael enjoyed taking rides on his Harley-Davidson and his Shelby Ford Mustang. As he got older, he traded his motorcycle for the Corvette which he loved driving on nice days in the spring, summer and fall months. A devout Catholic throughout his life, Michael was a parishioner of Assumption Parish – Church of the Holy Spirit in Newington. In addition to his beloved wife Mary, he leaves a sister-in-law, Stasia Hodyl of Wethersfield. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Marilyn Batayte; his father and mother-in-law, Bronislaw and Seweryna (Dziemianko) Hodyl; and a brother-in-law, John Hodyl. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Saturday, March 28, 10 a.m., at Assumption Parish – Church of the Holy Spirit, 183 Church St., Newington. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Annunciation Parish, 626 Willard Ave., Newington, CT 06111.
