Dominic Carlone Obituary
Dominic Michael Carlone Jr., 60, of Kensington, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2025. He was the devoted husband of Lisa (Houle) Carlone for 32 years. Dominic was born in New Britain, CT on February 8, 1965. He was the son of the late Dominic Carlone Sr. and Christine (Albani) Carlone. He graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School, New Britain, in 1983. He went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Hartford in 1987. He then began his lifelong career as a Computer Technical Analyst for the State of Connecticut, Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP). Always a hard worker, Dominic had some "side jobs" to keep him busy as well. As a young boy he enjoyed helping his dad do landscaping, and in 1992 he and Lisa officially formed Carlone's Landscaping, LLC. Years later he added landlord to his list of accomplishments when he purchased his first rental property. But what gave him the most pride was when he became a father. His first-born son, his namesake, was born on Father's Day. He was then blessed with three more sons, and his greatest blessing, another namesake, his firstborn grandson. His larger-than-life personality enabled him to make friends with anyone, anywhere. Never afraid of what anyone thought, he was as genuine as you can get. He wasn't an eloquent speaker, and spelling and grammar weren't his strengths, but his words were always meaningful and sincere. He was very proud of his Italian heritage, was a member of the Italian Independent Political Club in Kensington, spent time caring for his fig trees and planting a garden every year, and loved to cook, but the one word that describes what was most important to him - family. He and Lisa hosted a pig roast every year, for 27 years, for the sole purpose of seeing family and friends once a year "just because". In his "spare" time, he would cook for numerous Boy Scout events, from the Easter Bunny Breakfasts to Pasta Dinners. He was a volunteer coach when his sons started "Learn to Skate", even if it meant sometimes showing up in his dirty landscaping clothes. After all, there was a reason Father Robert referred to him as "Super Dad". He didn't take much time to do things just for himself, but he did enjoy hunting, fishing, and Sunday's on the boat for some tubing fun with family. After completing almost 38 years working for DEEP, he retired on April 1, 2025. Dominic leaves behind his loving wife Lisa; his four sons, Dominic Carlone III and his significant other Kathleen Arrigo of Hillsboro, NH, Nicholas Carlone and daughter-in-law Samantha Carlone of Wolcott, Zachary Carlone of Wellesley, MA, and Joshua Carlone and his fiancé Abigail Zeoli of New Britain; his beloved grandson, Dominic Carlone IV (D4); "step-grandson", Dominic Kelly; step-granddaughters, Quincy and Phoenix Clay; his sister, Catherine Depathy of Bolton; his father-in-law, Philip Houle and mother-in-law, Patricia Houle of Indian Land, SC; his brother-in-law, Leonard Patterson and sister-in-law, Noreen Patterson of Lancaster, SC; niece, Alyson Krahl and her husband David; nephew, Justin Patterson and his wife Shyanna; nephew, Jesse Patterson; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Dominic and Christine Carlone, and his brother-in-law Keith Depathy. Funeral services will be on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 9:00 am at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Paul Church, 485 Alling St., Kensington. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 4-7 pm at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dominic's memory to The Friendship Center in New Britain (fsc-ct.org) or to the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department (www.berlinfire.org).
