Joan L. Brockett

Joan L. Brockett, 85, of East Granby, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at her home. Joan lived with her Alzheimer's disease for eleven years with courage, grace, humor, kindness, and love. She dealt with every challenge along the way with a positive attitude, and would always answer with, "I can do that" and made everyone she came in contact with smile or laugh hysterically. Born on Christmas Eve, 1939 daughter of the late Gerald and Ruth (Fox) LaPlant, she was a lifelong resident of East Granby and was a graduate of Simsbury High School, Class of 1957. In her spare time, Joan enjoyed traveling and going on adventures with friends and family making lasting memories along the way. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and loved music and could turn any experience into a song. Most of all, Joan will be remembered for her sparkling blue eyes and her infectious laugh. She leaves her loving family including, three children, Terri Scheidel and her husband Michael of Tolland, Todd Matthews of East Granby, and Traci Cosgrove of East Granby; six grandchildren, Travis Gero of Tolland, Heather Gero of Vernon, Kelly Scheidel of Tolland, Timothy Scheidel of Tolland, Logan Cosgrove of East Granby, and Aidan Cosgrove, USN of East Granby; two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Riley Gero both of Eagle, ID; her sister-in-law, Sandra LaPlant of Jamestown, RI; a nephew, Keith LaPlant and his wife Debbie of Canton; and a niece, Michelle Wilusz and her husband Jamie of Richmond, RI. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Gerald LaPlant, Jr.; and a dear friend, Wallace "Sonny" Simmons. Her family will receive friends on Thursday, March 27, 11 a.m.-12 Noon, followed by a memorial service at 12 Noon, at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. Burial will follow in Granby Cemetery, North Granby Rd., Granby. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff that provided wonderful support to Joan and her family.
