Robert Raines Obituary

Robert Arnold Raines Age: 98 Died at home, April 22, 2025, was born in Newton, MA, July 12, 1926 to Rev. and Mrs. Richard Raines. Raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was predeceased by his sister Rose, and two brothers Dick and John. Bob graduated from Yale University in 1950, and Yale Divinity School in 1953. Bob also played football ay Yale, and one time after a win over Wisconsin, the New Haven Register Sports headline was "Thunder, Lightning, and Raines". He had an active career in ministry, and served three churches, in Cleveland, Philadelphia, and Columbus. Following these pastorates, Bob served as director at the Kirkridge Retreat Center in Pennsylvania for 20 years along with his wife Cynthia. Over the years he also authored 12 books. Upon their retirement in 1994 he and his wife moved to Guilford, CT where they have lived for over 30 years. Bob leaves behind his wife of 50 years as well as his beloved children. He was predeceased by a daughter and a stepson. He is survived by 2 daughters, a son, a stepdaughter, 10 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Bob was much loved, and will be missed by those who knew him, and worked alongside him. A memorial service will be held on Sat, May 31st, at 1:00 pm at the First Congregational Church on the Green in Guilford, CT. The Hawley Lincoln Memorial, 1315 Boston Post Rd. Guilford is in charge of arrangements.
