Susan Feiner Leibert of Boynton Beach, Florida and longtime former resident of Farmington and Avon, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on July 16, 2025 in Lantana, Florida. Born on January 18, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri, Susan was the firstborn child of Edith Salomon Feiner and Samuel Jefferson Feiner. She attended Mary Institute in St. Louis and was a graduate of Monticello Preparatory School, Godfrey, Illinois and the University of Miami.
Susan was a devoted wife to the love of her life, Herbert A. Leibert, and the cherished mother of son Jeffrey W. Leibert whom she adored. Not only were Sue and Herb partners in a long and loving marriage, but they were business partners as well, working together for decades at Herbert’s insurance brokerage company, Underwriting Associates, Inc. in Avon, Connecticut until Herbert’s death on August 5, 2005, following which Sue continued to run the business herself for many years until her own retirement.
A talented self-taught interior designer, avid cookbook collector and fearless gourmet-level cook, Susan hosted many events and holiday dinners at her lovely Farmington, Ct. home, including a memorable 100th birthday party for her father. Susan was very social and spent her retirement years in Boynton Beach, Florida in a beautiful over-55 community, happily enjoying the company of friends both old and new.
Susan fought ALS bravely and with dignity for over a year. Much longer than anyone expected. Susan is survived by her loving son Jeffrey Winthrop Leibert, her sister Patricia Feiner Arkin and brother-in-law Edward Arkin of Somis, California, and many cousins, nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews.
The family wants to thank all the nurses and health care providers but especially Allison Shevlin for her care and support for Susan during her illness.
Services will be held on Tuesday July 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Avenue, West Hartford, Ct. followed by burial at Beth El Temple Cemetery, 51 Jackson St., Avon, Ct.
