Delores A. Bornman Clark, 89, of Nelsonville, MO passed away at 8:15 AM, Friday, July 18, 2025, at Good Samaritan Home in Quincy, IL.
Friends and Family are invited to Delores's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra, MO.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra, MO. Pastor Marty Smyser will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, IL.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra, MO.
Delores was born in Quincy, IL, on December 5, 1935, to August Bornman and Edith Miller Bornman. She married the love of her life, Chester Clark on July 3, 1970, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Quincy, IL. He preceded her in death on December 4, 2021.
Delores is survived by her step daughters, Cate Clark of Placitas, NM and Lynn Davis of Madison, MO, step grandchildren, Danielle Given and Nathan Andrew Davis, step great-grandchildren, Josilyn, Kiera, and Liza Jane Given, great-nephew, Randy (Kerri) Strode, great-niece, Robin (Stuart) Bartley, great great nephews, Lucas Strode, Ben Bartley, Nate Bartley, great great niece, Rebecca (Jimmy) Rapp, step great great nephew Bobby Uppinghouse and his family.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Chester Clark, two sisters, Catherine Bornman, Virginia Strode, brother in-law, Robert Strode, and nephew, Bob Strode.
Delores graduated in 1953 from Quincy High School, in 1957 from Western IL University with a BS in Education and in 1967 from Western IL University with a Master of Science in Elementary Education. She also completed additional graduate work at the University of Colorado and Northeast MO College.
Delores loved her roles in life, cherishing time spent on the farm with her husband Chester, a loving soul who brought joy to her stepdaughters and step grandchildren in even the smallest moments with them, and as a teacher to the many children who came through her classroom each year.
Delores taught first-grade at Irving School in Quincy, IL for 43 years, which was the same school she attended as a student and took her first-grade teachers position when she began teaching in 1957. She also taught under the same principal that was there when she attended school. She looked forward to each new year that brought bright students for her to teach and guide into their academic careers. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, a life member of the Illinois Retired Teachers and the National Education Association. She was also awarded a life membership in the Irving School PTA, Irving School Teacher of the Year in 1990 and the Golden Apple Award in 2000.
Her life on the farm was full of beautiful memories of time helping Chester, working in her gardens, taking care of her dogs, cats and horses and of course time spent cooking up a great meal for her family and friends. She was a member of the Buffalo Rangers Saddle Club in Nelsonville.
Delores was a woman of strength and purpose, sharing her love of the Lord and His worked with those around her. Delores was baptized and confirmed in Trinity United Church of Christ in Quincy, IL. As a member of Emerson Christian Church, she shared her musical gift, by playing piano for the congregation for many years.
Delores had a fascination with genealogy. She enjoyed tracing her lineage. She enjoyed researching the epic journey of Lewis and Clark. Delores's passion for antiques was more than just a hobby, it was a reflection of her love for history. Gardening was another of Delores's great joys. Delores also embraced the modern world and became a user of Door Dash.
Delores's memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
