Elizabeth Lacy Obituary
Elizabeth (Betty) Lincoln Lacy, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, at Pittsfield Manor, Pittsfield, Illinois at the age of 90. Elizabeth was born March 2, 1935, to Bybee Park Lacy and Margaret Wheeler Lacy. She graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1953.
She received her Bachelor degree from Western Illinois University and later received a Master's Degree from Illinois State University. After graduating WIU, she resided in Northfield, Illinois and taught physical education in the Deerfield, IL school system. She retired from teaching in 1977 and returned to her family home in Pike County. Elizabeth was an active member of the Pike County Historical Society and volunteered countless hours at the Old East School Museum. Elizabeth was active in DAR and the Sorosis Club. She was a member of the Pittsfield United Congregational Church before it was disbanded. In later years, she enjoyed listening to many of the local church radio services. She owned and operated the Purple Martin restaurant in Griggsville, Illinois, before its closing and then purchased the Cardinal Inn and operated it until its closing. She owned several farms in Pike County and enjoyed keeping up to date with their progress with her long-time tenants, Eric Miller, before his retirement, and David Barton. Elizabeth loved to travel and was able to enjoy many trips and cruises.
Elizabeth is survived by her brother Elza Charles Lacy of Scottsdale, AZ, and several nieces and nephews including Douglas (Wendy) Lacy, Sharon Romaine, Robert (Joanne) Lacy, Margaret Ann (Bob) Ackerman, Gary Lee Lacy, Steven Lacy, Randall (Paulette) Lacy, Catherine (Scott) Blumenstein, Janine (Jim)Weith, and Susan (Tom) Noel. She is also survived by many second, third and fourth generation nieces and nephews and a cousin, Leann (Brian) Ritter.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, mother, Margaret Lacy and father, Bybee Park Lacy, her brothers, Richard L. Lacy and Park Lacy Jr., and nephew, David L. Lacy.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL with visitation held prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery in Pittsfield. Memorials are suggested to be made to Pike County Historical Society or Pike County All Wars Museum.
