Norma Bailey Obituary

Norma J. Bailey, 88, of Avon, passed away at 6:45 PM Wednesday May 7, 2025, at home. She was born Dec. 26, 1936, in McCook, Nebraska to Harold and Nellie (Echternach) Snyder; she married Daniel Bailey in 1960. He preceded her in death on July 25, 1990. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Alvin "Sonny" Snyder and a sister, Marian Croutcher. She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Bailey of Macomb, Diane Bailey of Festus, Missouri, and Susan Bailey of Avon. Norma first worked as a telephone operator, then as a fingerprint clerk for the FBI before joining the military, where she proudly served in the United States Army as a member of the Womens Army Corps Military Police. While stationed at Fort McClellan in Alabama, she was the first WAC MP at Fort McClellan to make Outstanding at Guard Mount. This was also where she met Daniel. Later, she worked at JC Penney at Sandburg Mall in Galesburg for several years. Norma loved real country music, gardening and her pets. She was a devoted mother who will be missed terribly by her daughters. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home in Macomb, Illinois, located at 201 W. Carroll. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Childrens Hospital.
