Arnold Breitwieser Obituary

QUINCY -- Arnold "Jim" Breitwieser, 81, of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Quincy, went to Heaven June 1, 2016. He was a patient at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Ariz., a victim of a stroke.

Jim was born Oct. 12, 1934, in Belleville, to Arnold and Evelyn Schmezel Breitwieser. He attended grade school, high school and trade school in Belleville. Jim spent over 45 years of his life as an insurance adjuster, most of the time in the Quincy area.

In 1972 he married Betty Holzhauser, and they resided in Quincy until moving to Arizona four years ago.

Jim's life was full of fun, and he loved to be active. While in Quincy he enjoyed his bikes, which a few years ago he rode 12,000 miles in one year. Much time was also spent on the river water-skiing, either skiing himself or teaching nieces, nephews or friends' children. Jim played tennis weekly for probably 30 years, fished every chance he got, shot his gun, was a member of bowling teams, and, as a result of a marriage contract with his wife, went snow skiing every year either with Betty or a group of crazy guys. Since moving to Arizona, Jim was "gigglely" happy playing 18 holes of golf regularly three days a week and again bowling.

Jim and his wife were avid travelers, beginning in South America the first month they met and ending a few months ago sailing from Budapest, Hungary, to Amsterdam. Many places such as Russia, Hong Kong, Europe, Egypt and Kenya they visited repeatedly, having personal friends in many locations.

Jim loved people and could strike up a conversation with anyone he met. Jim loved his family, and is the favorite uncle to Terry, Tom, Kim, Susan and Steve Breitwieser and Beverly, Brenda and Rick Huffman. Jim also loved spending time with Betty's sister Carol and brother-in-law C.D. Huffman of Sigourney, Iowa. Jim and Betty had a great life together, and she survives.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brother John; sister-in-law Patty; and great-greatniece Jackie.

SERVICES: A "Celebration of Life" will be 2 p.m. June 26 at Quincy Boat Club. Jim's final resting place will be in Deuser Cemetery, Hedrick, Iowa, with a graveside service for family and friends.

MEMORIALS: Quincy Salvation Army, Quincy Christmas Good News or the Historical Society.

Jimmy, will always be in my heart and thoughts forever! I am so blessed to have had Jimmy as a second father and a third or stand in grandfather as he called himself to my two daughters. I loved his stories and his thoughtfulness but mostly I loved watching his eyes sparkle and smile glow when he was around my girls. I will always treasure the love he had for us and Betty. Thank you for moving to Arizona and touching the hearts of my children, I Love You!

Betty, I always enjoyed working with Jim as an Insurance Adjuster --- He always had time to visit. Then you moved into Northridge in Quincy and went to church with us at Vermont Street United Methodist and were neighbors and church family. He was a Good Man!!!!!

Uncle Jimmy, There are not enough words to describe how much we love you and will miss you. You were the best Uncle that anyone could ever have. You have always been there for all of us. Always there to listen or give us advice. There are so many stories that could be told. From teaching us to water ski in the river, with the instructions to keep your mouth shut and your eyes open. All while Aunt Betty would keep us steady in the water until you took off. The time you took Adam to Baseball spring training and had your first In/Out burger! We love you and Aunt Betty so very much. All our love, Kim & Adam

To my Great Uncle Jim,
Thank you for the life you lived! My best memories are you teaching me to play poker (definitely my favorite thing ever-it's why I'm so good at cards today), going on adventures in caves, and just sharing memories and times together (let's not forget the horse races and buying fireworks). You will be missed! Love you.

Jimmy, we miss you and love you so much. You are the best Uncle anyone could ever ask for! Your wit and love of life, your many captivating stories, always there when needed or when some one was looking for sage advice. The lessons of life and just how to enjoy it to the most are forever etched on our hearts! So many memories all of which included laughter or let's just say tossing another roll across Grandma's table! I could write so many more but just know you were loved by all who encountered you and Betty. As is written in 2 Timothy 4:7 "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith." You may not physically be here but you heart and spirit lives on with us always. Tom Breitwieser 6-14-2016

This Wednesday we celebrate Jim Breitwieser life here in Arizona, Jim and I have been friends for over 50 years. We have had a great relationship over the years. Jim was not such a handy man so to speak, he had no idea what a screw driver was over a hammer. I had no idea what a insurance policy was over a screw driver was. It has been an ride for a long time. Jim has help me out so many times with his long stories and I helped him out with my short stories. I can remember 47 years ago when he held my son for the first times in his arms, what a sparkle he had in his eyes. Then came along our daughter, and he melted. Jim became the God Father to our two children. We have had so many great time together over the years it is so hard to write about all of them. When Sue and I moved from Illinois to Arizona in 2000 we worked hard to get the world travelers to move here with us. Finally it paid off and Jim and Betty moved here to Paradise in Arizona. Jim was loving it so much, he could pay golf all he wanted and no snow shoveling. Jim never missed a chance to attend our daughters two children's advents in life. Jim came very close to our two Arizona grand-kids. They both loved Jim so much. I have a big void in my life and am looking forward to filling it with my four grandchildren. Miss you love you Mr James Breitwieser
