John Carman Obituary

John E. Carman, 68, of Quincy, died on Friday (May 2, 2014) at his home.

He was born on Jan. 1, 1946, in Stoutsville, Mo., the son of William "Mutt" and Ethel Pierceall Carman. He married Debra Dee Staley on May 27, 1983. She died June 13, 2003.

John was a pressman for The Quincy Herald Whig, retiring in 1994. Previous to that, he had been a pressman for Perry Enterprise, Artcraft Printing, Standard Printing and then Royal Printing.

John served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era. John also served in the Missouri National Guard and the Naval Reserve.

He was a member of the Masons. He enjoyed eagle watching. His greatest enjoyment, though, was time spent with family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by four children, Tracy Blade and her fiancée, Roy Clegg, of Carson City, Nev., Karl Carman and his wife, Tammy, of Quincy, Michelle Staley of Quincy and Chris Staley and his wife, Angela, of Wheaton; nine grandchildren, Zachary Blade, Angelica Blade, Brittney Clegg, Lindsay Carman, Nicole Carman, Victoria Flot, Chelsea Flot, Chloe Staley and Emma Staley; one great-grandchild, Gisella Ide; one sister, Phyllis Shively and her husband, Aubrey "Bud"; an aunt, Mary Young and her husband, Leroy; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Carman; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Saturday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Greenmount Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: House of Prayer.

ARRANGEMENTS: Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.

To John's family--I didn't know him super well, but any time I was around him with his family, he was gracious, kind and friendly. I know he was very loved and needed. He will definitely be missed! All of you are in my prayers during this sad time.
