1935 - 2018

Robert Gordon Jones, 82, of Ewing, died Thursday, April 19, 2018, at his home.

Robert was born Aug. 1, 1935, in Quincy, Ill., to Henry Edward and Marjorie Louise Brown Jones.

He married Emily Collins on March 12, 1982, at their home in Ewing, and she survives.

Robert graduated from Battlecreek Central High School in 1953. He worked as a pressman at Battlecreek newspapers and other newspapers. He later worked for and retired from J.K. Creative.

He was an avid outdoorsman. He went on an annual bear hunt in Michigan, a tradition started in the 1950s. He also loved deer, turkey, coon and bird hunting. He enjoyed fishing for crappie, bluegill and catfish.

He made homemade sorghum. He loved to garden and was known to grow large onions. He enjoyed bird watching, especially his martins. He also was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.

Other survivors include two daughters, Debra Jo McDaniel of Crystal Beach, Fla. and Donna Louise Postma of Aiken, S.C.; a son, Alan Lee Jones (Lisa), of Newton, Kan.; three stepsons, Kevin Gerveler (Missa) of Ewing, Patrick Gerveler (Sue Ann) and Robert Traman (Ellen) of Quincy; one sister, Betty Lou Bishop (Roger) of Ewing; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He also is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Denise Ann Ratliff; and one great-grandson.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel, Palmyra, with the Rev. Dewayne Larenson conducting. Burial will be in New Providence Cemetery, Benbow. Pallbearers will be Kevin Gerveler, Pat Gerveler, Rob Traman, Alan Sparrow, Michael Lay and Tony Smitherman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kyra Postma, Leigh Jones, Ashley Lay, Kelsey Gerveler, Abbey Gerveler, Hannah Gerveler, Mia Traman and Sarah Young.

VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: New Providence Cemetery and\or American Heart Association.
