Ruth Sibley Obituary

Ruth Ann Sibley
Born: February 4, 1951
Died: August 14, 2025
Ruth Ann Sibley, 74, of Prophetstown, IL, passed away on August 14, 2025.
Ruth Ann was born February 4, 1951, in Morrison, IL, the daughter of the late Harry "Dutch" and Mary (VerVaecke) Meier. Ruth Ann grew up in Erie and Prophetstown, Illinois, and graduated from Prophetstown High School in 1969. On June 20, 1969, she married James Sibley. Together, they built a life centered around their family and the simple pleasures they enjoyed together.
Ruth Ann is survived by her husband, James, and their four sons: Brad Sibley (Katie) of Dixon, IL; Scott Sibley (Dionne) of Bettendorf, IA; Jesse Sibley (Shelly) of Coal Valley, IL; and Josh Sibley (Haley) of Prophetstown, IL. She was a proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren - Brady Sibley, Jacob Sibley, Hunter Gehrt, Landon Knigge, Lauren Sibley, Erin Sibley, Ben Sibley, Grant Sibley, Jack Sibley, Sydney Sibley, Connor Sibley, Reagan Sibley, Kaelyn Sibley, and one great-granddaughter, Vivian Sibley.
Ruth Ann is also survived by her brothers, Art Meier (Janet) of Prophetstown, IL, Frank Meier of Erie, IL, and many loving extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Maryann Jacobs; and her sister-in law, Pat Meier.
Ruth Ann enjoyed spending time at the river and being with family and friends. She was there to cheer her sons in their activities as they were growing up and made her loved ones feel special with annual "birthday song" phone calls. Ruth Ann had a willingness to share her perspective and was teasingly called "Truth Ann" on more than one occasion. She loved pastel colors and Post-it notes, but not nearly as much as she loved her husband, James, who affectionately referred to her as "Hooper". Ruth Ann's love for those close to her and her steady presence will be remembered by all who knew her.
A celebration of life will be held from 4 pm - 7 pm on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Prophet Hills Country Club in Prophetstown, IL. A private burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown, IL, at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory, Prophetstown.
