Inscription from John Turco

Richard Hernandez

August 30, 2011

I was deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Turco's passing. He was an inspiration to me when I was a student at Garfield High School from 1964-1967. When I graduated he gave me a Webster's Seventh New Collegiate Dictionary with the inscription "Presented by the Social Studies Department of Garfield High School to Richard Hernandez the outstanding social studies student of the graduating class of January, 1967. John E. Turco, Social Studies Department Chairman."

Through the years everytime I open that dog eared dictionary I think of John Turco and the guidance he gave me. It has sustained me through my 30 year military career and my own educatonal journey.
