Megan Durand Obituary

Megan Lynn Durand of Acton, MA, 20, beloved daughter of Jeff and Kristen Durand and sister of Mackenzie, Meredith, and Molly Durand. Granddaughter of Bob and Betty Goulet of Acton, MA and Dick and Romelle Durand of Sun City, AZ. Also survived by many loving cousins, aunts, uncles and special friends. Megan was a sophomore at High Point University. She was loved by everybody she met and will be remembered for her spirit, spunk, smile, and gift of comforting and counseling anyone who needed it. While remembering Meg this week, her Nana commented that she was a saint on earth. Megan was a lot of things, but a saint was not one of them. Meg was a colicky baby, a precocious toddler, and an adventurous and bubbly school-aged child. Even as a youngster, she had a magnetic personality that drew everyone to her. Everybody loved Megan. She was beautiful. So beautiful, in fact, that at an early age people would stare at her, stop in the streets, and compliment her, frequently commenting that "she should be a model." One would think that being so beautiful would be a blessing, but for Meg it made her uncomfortable. She wanted to be liked, accepted and respected for who she was and not how she looked. Despite her life struggles, particularly during high school, with the incredible support of her favorite adults, Todd Chicko and Nikki Jeanotte, and her amazing friends, Abby, Jordan, Jaime, Lynn, Elizabeth, Paige, Ray and too many others to name, she graduated and went on to attend college. From the first moment she stepped on the High Point University campus, Meg knew where she wanted to go to college. She loved HPU and it was truly her HAPPY place. She made special friends: "the Original Five", her roommates, Liz, Allie, Emma, Emmy, and Kiersten. They began to make great memories from Day 1. Because of her own struggles with pain, Meg counseled, consoled and cheered on her friends with immense passion. She also made them laugh--made ALL of us laugh, every single day. If there is any mercy in this very difficult time for her family, it comes in listening to friends share how much Megan meant to them. We'd like Meg to be remembered for her caring personality and awesome, quirky sense of humor. As you remember Meg, be her ambassador -- picture her big, beautiful smiling face and pass on her care and compassion to others. While Meg may not have been a saint on earth, she is most definitely a saint in heaven watching over all of us now. She was the best daughter, sister, grand daughter and friend. Funds will be equally distributed to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and High Point University.
