Mary Carey Obituary

Mary E. (O'Neill) Carey, 91, of Arlington, passed peacefully on Sunday, December 27, 2020 with her son Richard by her side. Beloved daughter of Johanna (Flanagan) and Richard ONeill, and wife and high school sweetheart of the late Dr. Robert J. Carey. She leaves behind her sister-in-law Barbara Carey of Brookline, Missouri, her 5 children, 12 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren; Robert J Carey, Jr., his wife Jennifer Davis Carey and their children Michael and wife, Amanda of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Christopher and partner Rachel Laverture of Auburn, and Helena of Worcester; Rosemary McGinty, her husband Brian McGinty and their children James, and Kelly Putnam and husband Zac of Woodstock, VT; Kathleen Carey, her husband Donald Westwater and their children Emma and Jed of Arlington; Richard Carey, his wife Theresa Carey and their children Kimberly Haynsworth and her husband Perry of Burlington, Stephen, and Mitchell of Andover; John Carey, his wife Lisa Baldez and their children Joseph and Samuel of Hanover, NH. She will also be missed by her great-grandchildren Elise, Ethan, Mary Kate, and Hugh. Mary gave up a career in education to raise her family, but always remained a teacher at heart. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother as well as an active volunteer in her church and local communities and in Latin America. A lifelong resident of Arlington, she traveled extensively with her beloved husband Bob, treasured time spent by the shore in Ogunquit, Maine, and loved nothing more than welcoming family and friends from all over the world into her home, which was a haven to hundreds of visitors. Her door was always open; there was always a seat at her table. She was an original, lifelong member of St. Eulalias Parish in Winchester and served in many capacities there over the decades. Those whose lives she touched will always remember her warmth and kindness. All Services are currently private. A memorial service will be held at a later date when it is safe for relatives and friends to gather to celebrate Mary's life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Arlington Eats, 58 Medford Street, Arlington, MA 02474. For online condolences, please visit www.keefefuenralhome.com.

Happy Heavenly 92nd Birthday, Mary. No doubt the streets in heaven are a little more crowded since you arrived. May God keep you in the palm of His hand. RIP my long time friend.
