Ronald A. Shulman

Ronald Anthony Shulman of Reno, NV, formerly of Brookline, MA, died peacefully on January 7, 2016, in his eighty-fourth year. Beloved son of the late Jack and Hattie Shulman of Shaker Heights, OH, dear brother of the late James M. Shulman, son-in-law of the late Syd and Al Brickman of Vineyard Haven, MA. For fifty-four years, cherished and devoted husband of Diane Brickman Shulman. Proud father of Lisa Piel (Geoffrey), Seth Shulman (Dorothy) and Tony Shulman (Elena). Loving and adored Beempee of Jordan, Zoe and her husband Adam, Matthew, Stephen, Allie, Samantha, Hayley and Thomas. Most patient dog-dad of Coffee, Tomas, Batman and Robin, and bunny-dad of Bucky. Ron's life was a long series of adventures. He was always eager to master a new skill, and did so effortlessly. He reinvented himself often, long before it became fashionable. An Ivy League scholar. An engineer and a builder of many things. A talented - and published - essayist. An inventor. A coin collector. A football and rugby player. An impeccable grammarian. One of the few known people in the world who actually preferred black licorice. The most long-suffering math tutor in the world. A voracious reader. A university faculty member. An avid lover of sports and a cold Guinness. A successful business owner. A compulsive punster. A man with the most remarkable appetite, who saw nothing wrong with eating cold Chinese leftovers for breakfast. Probably at his happiest puttering in the garden or the greenhouse - the Johnny Appleseed of composting! And, always, always, a gentleman in the true meaning of the word: a gentle man. His footsteps were quiet but powerful, in those size thirteen shoes. He will be greatly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
