I wasn't aware that Doug had passed until recently. He was unquestionably one of the kindest and most approachable guys I've ever known. A consummate professional and exeptional all around carpenter and woodworker, he'll be missed at work as well as at play. We're heartbroken for his family and send our sincere condolences.

I was so sad to hear about the loss of Doug. I have so many funny memories of times spent in Middle and High School. While there are funny memories, I will always remember his smile and the way he used to say, "Gaaaail?" like it was always a question with a smile. It makes me smile to think of him. I hope your family can make sense of it all and find some peace.

Douglas was the best neighbor, and helped me out when I was in a jam. We stayed friends after we moved to different places in Marblehead. Douglas got a kick out of me pronouncing his first name as "Dew-glus" from my Spanish heritage. I respected and admired Doug. I appreciate the challenges he overcame and the man that he was, and an example to others. May God Bless and strengthen ALL of his family now and always. I love you "Dew-glus".

May you find comfort in your memories of Doug. I know I'll never forget growing up on Maverick Street with him and the rest of the 'gang'. He was a great guy. Never had a bad word to say about anyone. Always a hello, a wave and a smile as I passed your house on the way to mine. Rest in peace old friend.

To my legacy friend Doug. We didn't spend as much time in the last few years as we had in the past. God knows I drove you crazy and don't think for a second that I didn't enjoy it! When we did get together, we'd always close it out by saying, "call me", even when we knew it might not be for a few weeks. We both understood that there were 'no goodbyes'. So Dude listen up, 'call me'...and I'll see ya soon.

My heartfelt condolences to Jacie and family, Rick and to all of the Broughton's family and friends.

March 31, 2016

To my friends I want you to know that I lost my brother Douglas Michael Broughton yesterday to cancer. He was my closest sibling in age and was one of the best men I've ever known.

Doug was 7 when I was born. and we were in bunk-beds until he was about 16! (Yes I was his pesky younger brother.)
Dougie taught me to whistle using my fingers, how to pick up a pencil with my toes, how to climb a tree, and how to get into AND stay out of trouble. And he always had my back.

From Doug I also learned how to be a friend, how to be loyal, and the importance of commitment. Being 7 years younger I watched the friendships he formed -- and many of those he made as a young man are still his friends to this day. In life & in business if he gave you his word -- you knew he would follow through no matter what. When he was on your side -- you knew he was there for you forever.

He was also the second member of my family that I "came out" to -- and he loved and accepted me immediately and from his heart, way before it was "cool" to have a gay sibling.

He was an amazing brother, friend, husband, father, step-father, uncle and grandfather. He owned and ran his own construction business in Marblehead MA for 30 years and I promise over that time more of his clients became friends than ever simply remained associates!

The obituary will be published tomorrow, but today I will leave you with the words of his daughter Michele: "He's the best guy I've ever known."

We will miss him every single day. I love you Doug.
