Edward Luzinski Obituary

Edward Joseph Luzinski, 84, husband of Phyllis J. (Konovalchik) Luzinski of Salem; died Sunday morning October 27, 2013 at the Devereux House in Marblehead following a short illness. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Dzierzanowski) Luzinski. Ed was a lifelong resident of the city and a lifelong communicant of St. John The Baptist Church. Ed was an Army Veteran who served in Europe during the Korean Conflict and attained the rank of Private First Class. Prior to his retirement in 1994, he was employed for 32 years as the Property Superintendant for the House of Seven Gables where he lived in the Phippen House with his family. He served under several directors including, Elizabeth McIntire, Helen Chapin, Caroline Gardner and Edward Stevenson. Active in Veterans Affairs for many years; Ed was a Past Commander of the Witch City Post 1524, VFW, Past District Commander Essex County VFW, Past Commander, PLAV, Post 55, Past State Commander, PLAV, Past Commander of the Salem Veterans Council, and Chairman of the committee to erect the War Memorial on the Salem Common. Ed had a passion for the City of Salem and its history. He served on the Board of Appeals as a constable and was active in the Polish community. Ed loved gardening and his view of the ocean from his back yard deck. Besides his wife, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage, he is survived by six children and their spouses, David Luzinski and Dr. Kathy Fabiszewski, William and Cheryl Luzinski, Paul and Sandra Luzinski, Mary and Michael Paul, all of Salem, Lucille and Dr. Douglas Halsted, Barbara and Matthew Burke, all of Marblehead, nine grandchildren, George Halsted, Hannah Halsted, Julia Munroe, Gabriella Munroe, Katherine Luzinski, Timothy Paul, Erin Paul, Claire Burke, Bridget Burke, and three generations of nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Dorothy Sakelakos. ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 AM at St. John the Baptist Church, Salem. Committal service will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours are Friday, 4-8 pm. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
