It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Aurelie Diana Mackie Jones Sousa Goodwin, who passed away on December 22nd, 2020 at the age of 87. She lived a long, rich and beautiful life, embracing the human experience to its fullest. Friendship, community, laughter and a celebration of the pageantry of life filled her days. Her spiritual life revolved around the First Unitarian Universalist Society of West Newton, including participating in the Small Group Ministry, and co-teaching Cakes for the Queen of Heaven. She was an accomplished painter and covered her walls with art, loved digging in her flower garden, filled her rooms with antiques, and hosted a classical music appreciation group for over 40 years. When her children were growing up she played folk music at local coffee shops with her then husband Manuel Sousa, strumming the guitar, dulcimer and autoharp. Celebration and ritual gave her great joy. She loved hosting parties and gatherings of all kinds her entire life. Aurelie received her Bachelor's degree from Middlebury College, a Masters degree from Boston College and a Doctorate degree from Boston University. Her first career was a primary school teacher at Memorial Elementary School in Natick, MA. Subsequently she became a clinicial psychologist and author. She was published in Ourselves, Growing Older in 1987, and co-authored a self-help guide for women. Aurelie had a private practice as a Psychologist in the Boston area for nearly 30 years, helping hundreds of people navigate through their difficulties. She leaves behind her four children, David, Chris, Jennifer and Skye, seven grandchildren, Lily, Madeleine, Juliette, Rebecca, Laura, Henry and Ethan. Also her two sisters Rosemary Lawson and Jennifer Campion, and their children Emily and Elliot Jones, Ricky and Kevin Lawson, Sara Campion-Egan and Lisa Campion. Her brother Jeremy Jones is deceased. A special thank you to Aurelies loving caretakers Anita Regan and Christina Regan who were there for her from her initial diagnosis right up until her last breath. They surrounded her with love and the family is forever grateful for their extraordinary care. The family is also indebted to Aurelies Alzheimer's physician, Andrew E. Budson, MD. His candor and warmth helped us manage expectations, guided us to appropriate resources and supported our endeavors to maintain a high quality end of life right up to the end. The family is immensely appreciative to have had Dr. Budson as part of her care team. Godspeed Aurelie Diana Makie Jones Goodwin, we will look to your example as we continue to celebrate your legacy. You have spread your beautiful wings and taken flight on your next journey. Youll be sorely missed, along with your warm hugs after which youd be known to say, Arent we lucky to have each other? Due to the restrictions in place during Covid19, memorial services will be held when it is safe to gather in person. Aurelies remains will be installed in a niche at the sanctuary at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of West Newton. If you would like to make a donation in honor of Aurelie, please visit the
