Loretta Fields Obituary

Loretta Josephine Fields (Leokadia Jozefa Tomaszewicz) was born on April 11, 1922 in Portland, Maine. Her parents, Karol Tomaszewicz and Jozefa Grzyb had emigrated at the turn of century from Wilno, Poland (present day Vilnius, Lithuania). Loretta and her three siblings grew up during the difficult years of the Great Depression when children often were forced to sacrifice their education to enter the workforce to help support the family. Loretta will be remembered as a vivacious, spirited woman, full of life and always with a story, and a photo or two, or three, of her family, especially her grandchildren of whom she was immensely proud. She was known for her kindness and warmth, as well as a sharp sense of humor, qualities much admired by her family, friends, and coworkers over the years. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents and her three siblings: brother John and sisters Jane and Katherine. She is survived by her son, William Thomaszvic (Pamela), her grandsons, Brandon (Rachel) and Justin Thomaszvic and by her son, Edward Fields, her granddaughters, Anna and Rachel Fields, and her former daughter-in-law, Sarah Potok. She is also survived by her loving and devoted companion of over forty years, Sylvester ('Bill') Macdonald. In recent years especially, her ability to count always on her 'Syl' provided tremendous comfort and support. Additional survivors include six nieces and a number of grandnephews and grandnieces. A celebration for what would have been her hundredth birthday is planned for next year. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Church, 262 Washington Street, Somerville on July 2, 2021 and burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland, Maine. Rest in Peace, Mom, Grandma, Loretta. You are dearly missed by us all. For complete obituary please visit www.dohertyfuneralservice.com

My condolences go out to the family of Loretta. I had the pleasure of being her hairdresser for many years. She was so proud of her family and grandchildren. I loved to see all her photos and to listen to her stories. May you find comfort in a lifetime of memories. RIP Loretta
