Hilde E. Bretschneider

Hilde E. Bretschneider (Mrs B. to many), age 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Maynard, MA surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 3, 2016 just shy of her 90th birthday. She joins all of her sisters and brother. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter A. Bretschneider. In 1926, she was born one of seven on a farm in Harpersdorf, Germany to Demjan & Minna Ussate. After WW II, she travelled to England where she met the love of her life, Walter, where music and dancing brought them together. Married in October 1953, the couple chose to explore a new country, traveling to the US in 1958 where they began their family. After the death of her husband in 1965, Hilde settled in Maynard, MA with her children. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, love of animals, gardening and culinary skills. As the Conant School cafeteria manager for over 20 years, she put her love into the food she prepared for the children she loved. This carried forward to home always ensuring plenty for all that arrived at her table. Left to honor Hilde and remember her with love are her two children, Monica Bretschneider of Maynard, MA and Peter Bretschneider of Brookline NH; daughter in law Donna Bretschneider, grandson Ryan Bretschneider; and many nieces and nephews in Germany. Per Hildes request, her ashes will be interred at Walter Bretschneiders grave site in Waltham MA at a yet to be determined date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Hildes name to one of three charities: American Heart Association; ASPCA; or Audubon Society.
