Patricia Lockery Obituary

Patricia Klarman Lockery, 79, of Sudbury, Massachusetts, died August 4, 2010 after a long illness. Born Patricia Mae Klarman in Spring Glen, Connecticut, daughter of William Henry and Edna Rigby Klarman, she is survived by her husband Harry E. Lockery, and her three sons, Shawn, of Eugene, Oregon; Christopher, of Arlington, Massachusetts; Edward of Seattle, Washington; their spouses, five grandsons, and a large extended family. A graduate of Southern Connecticut University where she majored in education, Patricia did graduate studies at the University of Miami and began a career as an educator in 1955. She taught gifted students in North Haven, Connecticut, before moving to Sudbury, Massachusetts, in 1958. Patricia taught English and History at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School for 22 years. She was the METCO Skills Instructor at LSRHS, mentoring many METCO students, 90 percent of whom went on to further education. In retirement, Patricia took courses at Boston College, Boston University, and Regis College in current events, politics, art, and literature. She was an avid swimmer, skier, and tennis player in her earlier years and loved Cape Cod where she vacationed every summer since 1956. Patricia enjoyed art, music, and theatre, was a talented painter, and a longtime subscriber to the Boston Symphony and the Huntington Theatre. Active in the political and cultural life of her community, she taught religion in Our Lady of Fatimas CCD program for over 20 years, and was a member of the Sudbury Historical Society, Sudbury Garden Club, Sudbury Association for Good Education (SAGE), Longfellow Club, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Massachusetts Audubon Society. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Massachusetts Audubon Society or the METCO Directors Scholarship Fund. A funeral mass was celebrated at St. Anselm Church, 100 Landham Road, Sudbury, MA at 12:30 PM on Monday, August 9. My thoughts and prayers are with you Harry, and with your family. Pat's smile and warmth made each day at L-S a happier place. It is difficult to understand and to accept her battle with cancer, but the impact she has made in all of our lives will always be part of our memories.
