Gerald Arcieri Obituary

Gerald "The Great One" Arcieri, age 72, retired Weymouth Police Lt., passed with his family by his side on February 13, 2017, at Seasons Hospice in Milton, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Boston, the youngest of 3 sons. He moved to Weymouth when he was 10. Upon graduation from Weymouth High School, where he was a star football player, he enlisted in the Navy, proudly serving on the USS Skywatcher during the Vietnam War. He attended Northeastern University and the University of New Hampshire. He was a prison guard at Norfolk Prison while waiting to be appointed to Weymouth Police where he worked for 32 years. After retirement he continued working as a Plymouth County Sheriff. Jerry went to "his" donut shop daily, sitting with friends playing Keno, while entertaining with his sense of humor. He knew how to work a room. He was a life member of the Elks. He was the beloved husband of Sandra (Newman) for 50 years; and proud devoted father to his two daughters, both teachers in Weymouth, Lanette Griffin and fiance Bob of Weymouth and Danielle Croto and her husband John of Whitman. He was the loving "Grampy" to Lexi, Gianna and Brielle Griffin and Ashley and Robbie Croto. When he went to his grandchildren's games, he could be heard above the crowd cheering them on. He was predeceased by his parents, Enrico and Adele and his brother Roger. He is survived by his brother Ken and wife Sylvia of Florida along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was one in a million and will be deeply missed by his friends and family. Family and friends are invited to gather at Hamel, Wickens & Troupe Funeral Home, 26 Adams Street, Quincy Center, Tuesday, February 21, at 10 a.m. to join the procession to the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne for an 11:30 a.m. funeral service. An invitation is also extended to attend a memorial at the Weymouth Elks, at 1197 Washington Street, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Weymouth Police Association, 140 Winter St., Weymouth, 02188. Lt. Gerry,

You were always, always a pleasure to work with and I so much enjoyed your humor and quick wit. In my short 4 years on the force you were always a prudent Supervisor and an enjoyable colleague. You were a good family man, a good police officer, and a good person. I will miss you. May God bless your soul, bless your family and ease their grief, and accept you into paradise heaven.

Rest easy Gerry

I met Jerry when he pulled me over because I stopped to let a car pull out into traffic. He scared the hell out of me saying you don't stop traffic to do that....and he was already retired from the police! Time passed and I eventually became his letter carrier hoping never to see him in case he remembered me. Don't know if he ever did, but did meet him. We became friends, and looked forward to "wisecracking" each other whenever we encountered. When I left his route and moved on to another, I figured we probably wouldn't see each other. Obviously we were doomed to have our lives entwined, cause he became a regular at "my" doughnut shop. Needless to say, I feel blessed that he "pulled me over" that fateful day and entered my life. My sympathy goes out to his family. May your memories help comfort you at this very difficult time. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. May he rest in peace.
