Keith Haney Obituary
Keith Mallory Haney passed away from pancreatic cancer on October 26, 2023, in Woodcreek, Texas. Born in Spokane, Washington on September 29, 1938, and raised in Yakima, Washington, Keith's 85 years were filled with invaluable contributions to his loved ones, community, and the field of engineering.
Those who knew Keith remember him as intelligent, handy, and adventurous. His academic pursuits led him to attain a Masters of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science from the General Motors Institute. Equipped with these credentials, Keith made contributions to various industries as an electro-mechanical engineer, working on semiconductor manufacturing, conveyors, oilfield production equipment, papermaking processes, and automobile products.
Keith's passion for engineering was matched by his love for community service and the outdoors. He was a devoted member of the Boy Scouts of America, where he received the Silver Beaver award for distinguished service, completed the Wood Badge advanced, national leadership course, and served on several District Councils. His dedication to the scouts extended to his role as Scoutmaster, where he imparted invaluable lessons about leadership and outdoor survival skills to the young men under his care.
In addition, Keith was a proud member of the Presbyterian Church, where he uplifted his fellow congregants through song as a part of the Choir, and where he previously served as Clerk of Session and on the Building and Grounds Committee. It was this same spirit of service that he brought to the Wimberly Playhouse as a set builder and the Village Store as an electrical specialist, enriching his community through his many talents.
He was interested in all things involving trains and trolleys and for many years an avid collector of transportation tokens serving as auction coordinator and Curator for The American Vecturist (Latin for passage money) Association.
Keith's commitment to his community was second only to his devotion to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Lee Haney, his sons, Bryon Mark Haney and Roger Mitchell Haney, his daughter, Collette Marie Haney, and his grandchildren, Nathaniel Vincent Haney, Caleb Mallory Haney, and Claire Marie Haney and Sandra's sons, Neal Hughes and Brian Hughes. Keith was predeceased by his son, Phillip Mallory Haney, and his first wife Doris Marie Drummond Haney.
Keith's passing leaves an unfillable void in the hearts of those who knew him. His family and friends will always remember him as a beacon of intelligence, handiness, and adventurous spirit. His contributions to his profession, community, and above all, his family, will forever echo in their hearts. Keith's life serves as a testament to a life well-lived, marked by service, love, and relentless pursuit of knowledge. His memory will continue to inspire all those whose lives he touched.
A memorial service will be held November 20 at the Wimberley Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m.
