Terry Schultz Obituary

Terry Schultz

August 5, 1940 - January 21, 2025

Schultz, Terry of Apple Valley, decided that after 84 years, enough was enough and peacefully departed this world on January 21, 2025. Born on August 5, 1940, in Waseca, Minnesota, Terry was adopted by Harry and Millie Schultz, owners of the Bright Spot confectionary in Winona. He graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1958 and served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. Terry spent his career dedicated to consumer finance, and proudly owned River City Financial Services, Inc. before retiring. His integrity, hard work, and belief in treating all people with fairness carried him through a successful career and life filled with purpose and meaningful connections. On November 28, 1959, Terry married Thea Mae Langseth, a sweet, Norwegian farm girl, and the love of his life. They shared 53 beautiful years of marriage until Thea's passing in 2012. Their love and devotion was the foundation of a family that brought Terry his greatest joy. Terry was the proud father of three daughters, whom he cherished beyond measure: Karla (Rodney) Stavlo, Kendra Schultz, and Kristen (Rick) Stock. He was a devoted grandfather to his beloved grandchildren: Anthony (Tarah), Emily (Eric), Christian (Kaitlin), Brandon, Kaitlyn (Dylan), Olivia, and Ashley, and a great-grandfather to: Lincoln, Madelynn, Ledger, and AJ. In his later years, Terry found love and companionship with his special friend, Jane Windhorst of Lake City. They spent their weekends cruising the countryside, dining out, and visiting many close friends and family. Family traditions meant everything to Terry, especially "Christmas at Dad's." Each year, he hosted a celebration complete with a meal prepared from the heart, a home filled with love and laughter, and memories that his family will carry with them for years to come. Terry was actively involved in his community as a member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 1776, and founding member of the Drag-On's Car Club of Winona. He stayed busy volunteering at the 360 Communities food pantry and Kaitlyn's Kloset, a local resource center operated by his granddaughter. Terry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Thea; parents, Harry and Millie; biological mother, Esther Schroeder; and half-brother, Timothy Ferderer. Memorial Service at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 12650 Johnny Cake Ridge Rd., Apple Valley, with visitation one hour prior. A private interment will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Terry has requested that donations be given to Lutheran Social Services (https://www.lssmn.org/get-involved/donate), earmarked for their adoption program.

I am a more recent friend with Terry and he was so helpful to me getting through my wife's dementia and passing. He had experienced a very similar situation and it gave me a lot of help as I could get guidance and and answers to help me though that difficult time. Shared many days at the Wed coffee.

So sorry to hear of this loss. Terry always brought a smile to the Wed AM SOTV Men's Coffee, because he always had such a smile on his face. I already added to service to my calendar, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, I plan to be there.
