Bobby Walkup Obituary

Bobby Walkup

Oct 30, 1937 - Feb 23, 2025

Bobby N. Walkup, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at his home with his family by his side. He was born on October 30, 1937, in Charlotte, NC, to the late Joseph Harvey and Delila Neal Walkup. Bobby was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pilot Mountain. His hobbies included woodcarving, walking on the beach when he was able, and traveling. His favorite woodcarving items were ducks and shore birds, and his greatest pleasure was giving them away. Anyone who came to his home, whether it was a friend or repairman, etc., left on many occasions with one of his carvings. He took great pride in telling everyone that he and Becky had traveled to all 50 states, almost all of the provinces in Canada, and had been on 18 cruises, which they thoroughly enjoyed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Burton Walkup, Neal Walkup, Bill Walkup and Howard Walkup; and three sisters, Eunice Williams, Mary Frodge, and Elizabeth Doneff. Bobby is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rebecca "Becky" Walkup, of the home; a son, Gary Walkup (Rachel) of Kernersville; a daughter, Lisa Sisk (Kevin) of Pilot Mountain; six grandchildren, Josh Walkup (Kristin), Jonathan Walkup (Jessica), Laiken Joyner (Michael), Ryan Sisk, Mary Hylton, and Leah Taylor (Bryson); four great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Walkup, Kailey Walkup, Harrison Walkup and Rhett Walkup. He is also survived by one brother, Harold David Walkup (Marie) of Fayetteville and numerous nieces and nephews, who he loved very much.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025, at First United Methodist Church in Pilot Mountain (210 W. Marion St., Pilot Mountain, NC 27041) with Rev. Jeremy Pegram officiating. Burial will follow in Pilot Mountain City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 696, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mountain Valley Hospice for their wonderful, compassionate care during his time of need. Hey, I'm not sure if you remember me or not. I was Thomas Needham's sister-in-law and use to hangout all the time at the shop. Gary was a few years older than me in high school. I'm so sorry for your loss. Bobby was always so nice. Prayers for you and your family.
