Cindy Davis Obituary

Davis, Cindy Lee

April 24, 1946 - November 27, 2023

In Loving Memory of Cindy Lee Davis (April 24, 1946 – November 27, 2023)

Born in Clemmons, NC on April 24, 1946, Cindy Lee Davis passed away peacefully at her Winston-Salem home on November 27th, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Raised on a Century Farm in Clemmons, she was the daughter of Jennie Bernice and Embert Vernon Doty, who predeceased her. Cindy was an extraordinary woman. Educated in Clemmons schools and later attending Appalachian State University, Cindy met her first husband, with whom she had two daughters, Monti Beasley and Denise Hickman (David). Later Cindy married Brian Davis and embraced his children, Brad Davis and Kristal Albertson (Jim Gleason), as part of her extended family. The true joys of Cindy's life were her eight grandchildren: William Hickman (Ruth), Ross Hickman, Brandy Gibson, Jordan Fant, Bennett Fant, Logan Fant, Anna Albertson, and Angie Davis. Cindy and Brian actively participated in their grandchildren's lives, attending plays, sings, athletic games, and countless golf matches! Cindy grew up in Center Grove Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and played the piano for many of her early years. She later became a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, NC. In her professional life, she managed the Ticket by Mail department at Piedmont Airlines, worked as a real estate agent, a designer in a florist shop, and was a kindergarten teacher. Her innovative teaching methods, like creating a reading space in a cast iron clawfoot tub were thought of being so cool! However, the most special and by far the most important job she had was Mom and "Mimi" to her grandchildren. Cindy's love for life and spirit were unwavering. She faced the challenges of Lou Gehrig's Disease with extraordinary courage, but continued to share laughter and smiles. Cindy was known for her generosity, hospitality, and talent in decorating and gardening. Cindy relished the role of hostess at countless gatherings with her diverse group of friends and family. Her home was a haven of laughter and shared stories, where she cultivated connections that spanned a lifetime. A passionate gardener, Cindy's yard was adorned with the beauty of blooming flowers, a reflection of her love for nurturing life. Travel played a significant role in Cindy's life. She turned holiday traditions into unforgettable adventures for the family. From exploring the landscapes of Africa to the pristine beauty of the Galapagos Islands, she created opportunities for shared exploration of different cultures. Thanksgiving and Christmas held a special place in her heart, transforming these holidays into expressions of love, warmth, and togetherness. Her festive meals and cherished moments became a testament to her ability to create an atmosphere of inclusion. Cindy welcomed anyone into her life, enriching others' lives with her enthusiasm for life and shared experiences. Cindy never knew a stranger - she could talk to anyone about anything. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well-lived, deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace.

Cindy requested no funeral; a private service will be held later. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist ALS Center, Attn. James Caress, MD, 1 Medical Center Blvd. Reynolds Tower Main Floor Neurology, Winston-Salem, NC 27157; or Centenary United Methodist Church 646 W 5th St, Winston-Salem, NC 27101; or a charity of your choice. We became friends in Ravinia South Dakota when she came to visit her grandparents. We were only about 15 when we first met.

My family and I moved to Winston / Arbor Rd In October of 2006. On Halloween, my students came running back to the house saying that the lady that lives in the big beautiful white house with animals hanging on the walls is so nice and gives out full size candy bars!!!! Well needless to say Cindy made quite the impression. I later had the opportunity to meet Cindy at an Arbor Roads gathering. She was so welcoming and so stylishly dressed. She made me feel like I was a native of Winston Salem. Cindy was first class. A true lady!

Cindy was in our Forest Garden Club years ago and served as our fabulous president as a remarkable and fun leader. I loved her so much and we have been friends ever since. I´m so saddened by her passing. My sincerest sympathy to her family at this difficult time. Sending love and prayers for comfort and peace especially at this holiday time.

Cindy was a classmate of mine at Southwest High School, where we were among the last graduating senior class. I haven´t seen her in many years, but mostly I remember her for her enthusiasm and sparkling personality. I´m sure she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

I will never forget the beautiful flower arrangement that Cindy made for Ed from her garden and Brian was so kind to deliver it. My only regret is that I didn't take a picture of it. She was very talented and giving. She will truly be missed.
