Greene, Gordon Lee

July 17, 1940 - February 4, 2023

Gordon Lee Greene a long-time business owner of 109 Building Center/Southside Building Center/GLG Corp. in Winston-Salem, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023, at the age of 82, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice. He was born July 17, 1940, in Churchland, NC, to Stokes and Leona Greene. He was the youngest of 5 children.

Gordon moved to Winston-Salem at the age of 18, and stayed at a boarding house as he went to Wake Forest College for a while. He worked at Lowes Companies for years, until he decided to go into business for himself.

He was preceded in death by his, mother Leona; and father, Stokes; brothers, Vernon and Edward Greene; and his dog, "Coco."

Those left to cherish his memories are his beloved ex-wife, Barbara Greene; two sons, Jonathan S. Greene and wife, Sara Greene, from Winston-Salem, Andrew Greene from Winston-Salem; and six grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Arndt of Hickory; and one brother, James Greene of Moravia, N.Y.

Gordon loved playing cards and chess with his friends and loved going to the auctions to see what deals he could get. He will be missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 3410 Thomasville Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27107, Monday, Feb. 13, at 2 p.m.
