July 30, 1956 - July 25, 2022

Gretchen Sperduti, 65, passed at home surrounded by family on July 25, 2022. She battled leukemia for over 10 years.

Gretchen was born in Henderson, NC and was raised in Winston-Salem. She was in the 1974 graduating class from R.J Reynolds Senior High School.

After graduating high school, she moved to upstate NY with her first love, Domenic Sperduti. They came back to Winston-Salem and had two daughters, Jessica and Mandy. Gretchen will be remembered for her sense of humor, her big hair, her feisty attitude, intelligence and her chicken soup. She loved animals of all kinds. She was always warm and welcoming to her daughters' friends with extra motherly love and advice. One of the titles she cherished the most was that of "Grammy" to her grandson Cooper.

Gretchen was preceded in death by her father, William Edward Ayers, Jr; sister, Patricia Lynn Ayers; and her ex-husband and father of her daughters, Domenic Sperduti.

Survivors include; daughter, Jessica Hynek and Matt, and Mandy Sperduti; mother, Patricia Ann Ayers; grandson, Cooper Hynek; brothers, William Ayers III and Shirley, Jeff Ayers, Chris Ayers, and Joel Ayers and Catie; and many extended family and friends.

The family is having a private celebration of life at a later date.

So sorry to hear of Gretchen's passing. I will always remember her as a sweet loving woman. She was beautiful inside and out. I am Dommy's cousin. Many years ago she sent me a Christmas card it was so nice that I framed it. It has been hanging on my wall ever since! So when I look at that picture I will always remember that it came from her. My sincere sympathy to her daughters and family. Peace & Love, cousin Tricia

I have got to know Gretchen from Facebook. She was a brave person who despite all uphills in her life was always positive and appreciated all support she received. I truly lost a friend. Condolences to her daughters Mandy and Jessica.

Gretchen was such an amazing person. I have so many wonderful memories of her when she and Dad (Terry Tuttle) worked together at Pfaff's. She was always beautiful and so kind and her love for her girls was without end. May God give you peace and comfort during this sad time. I know my Daddy has already starting picking on her in heaven - she always said she was a "hair tree" because of her gorgeous mane of hair. Take comfort in the good memories. Love to you all.

Hi. I had the privilege to bring food to this wonderful lady during her stays at the cancer center at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. We had a few brief chats, especially about our mutual name. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. Know that your family is in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Girls, I´m so sorry for your loss of your wonderful mother. I just found out today after wishing her a Happy Birthday. We had many heartfelt conversations about how much she loved y´all and how very proud of y´all she was of both of you. I know she was a child of Christ and if you are you truly will see her again in heaven. Love you both. Mavis Wall Anderson
