DANVILLE, Va. - Mr. John Stokes Cousart Jr., 59, of 153 James Road died Saturday, July 1, 2006, at Danville Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 8, 1947, in Fort Mill, S.C., to John Stokes Cousart Sr. and Mary Morris Cousart. Prior to moving to Danville, he worked 18 years with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and later worked in sales with Danville Memorial Gardens. He was a member of Unitarian Church of Greensboro, a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor's degree in journalism. While employed with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., he created World Tobacco Auctioneer Contest, which later became Harvest Jubilee. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Christine Cousart Chatham of Arlington, Va., and Rachel Cousart of St. Louis, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Lisa Elgin and Julie Coates, both of Danville; and a son, Gregory A. Cousart of East Bend. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 7, at Norris Funeral Services, 3995 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, with the Rev. Cam McIntire officiating. The family will receive friends at Norris Funeral Services one hour prior to memorial service. The family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew, 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, VA 24541. Norris Funeral Services of Danville is serving the Cousart family.

Went to High Sch and USC with John. The Family are in my Prayers. John was a boyhood Friend and I am sad to hear of his passing.
