Lee Lennon Obituary
KERNERSVILLE - Mrs. Lee Ann Porter Lennon, 40, died unexpectedly Friday, March 17, 2006, at her home. Mrs. Lennon was born in Forsyth County, a daughter of the late Jane Barberie Porter and William C. Porter Sr., and was an eighth-grade science teacher at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Winston-Salem. She was a member of Messiah Moravian Church and attended Waughtown Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Stacey Dewayne Lennon; a daughter, Grace Lennon; a stepdaughter, Sarah Lennon; a stepson, Brandon Lennon; her father and stepmother, William C. "Bill" Porter Sr. and Emily Porter, of Winston-Salem; her mother and father-in-law, Margaret and Lloyd Lennon, of Winston-Salem; sister-in-law Tracy Jones and husband Jimmy of Walnut Cove; brother-in-law Joey Lennon and wife June of Walkertown; a niece, Ashley Jones; and nephews Zander Porter and Josh Lennon. A memorial service was conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2006, at Waughtown Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joe McWeathey officiating. The family received friends immediately after the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Thomas Jefferson Middle School, 3500 Sally Kirk Road, Winston-Salem, 27106, or Waughtown Baptist Church, 1538 Waughtown St., NC 27107. The family would like to thank the faculty and students at Thomas Jefferson Middle School, as well as family and friends for all the kindness and support shown to us during her illness.

I worked with LeeAnn some years ago when we both were working in the home care field. She struck me at that time as an extraordinary person, full of compassion and dedication to people. She always went above and beyond the call of duty and was always there for her patients. She had a sweet spirit about her that just endeared her more to her colleagues and patients.

I was one of Mrs.Lennon's students at TjmS. Everyone loved being in her science classroom. She was the best science teacher ever.Everyone loved her and cared for her. We are all goin to miss her! It hurts for me to go in her class room and she's not in there.:( but i know that she is in a better place now. I just wish I could have told her goodbye. I am so sorry for your loss of such a warm, loving, caring person. I enjoyed working with LeeAnn very much. She and I had a blast getting our CDL's last spring--she was so proud!! I really got to know her and learned how special she was during those days. She was so supportive this year when I was losing my father to cancer and was always there for me as a friend to offer comfort or advice during that difficult time. She is missed.

I was so sad when I heard about Mrs. Lennon passing away last Friday. I was in her science class last year and she was a wonderful teacher and always gave great advice to people who needed it. I will remember her and I know no one will forget her.

I was in Mrs.Lennon's homeroom class, and when i heard that she died i was in shocked and in pieces, i mean Mrs.Lennon did alot for me she paid for my field trip when my dad couldn't pay. She was soo nice and cool and lay back and really caring of others. She made each one of us all special to her. Now that she is gone it seems that she is like always there with us you know like in spirit. But i will never forget Mrs.lennon for all that she done for me and others I LOVE YOU MRS.LENNON <3

I am so sorry to hear what had happened. I am a 7th grader at Thomas Jefferson Middle School. When I heard the sad news, many students were down as well as teachers. I did not know Mrs. Lenon well, but I have heard wonderful peronatlities of her that made me want to be her student next year. Mrs. Lenon was always there when someone got hurt, and would help out a lot. She was like a hero. I just want to let you know, you are in my prayers, and she shouldnt have deserved to go. I am a tjms student and also one of hers student i was in her homeroom and 3nd period she was always there for me she knew when somehting was wrong with me and she would fix it and make me happy but now there is no one there to help me and who is going to fix this problem i have ? She was like a second mother to me and i would like to tell the family that i will be there for you no matter what happens to me i will be up there oneday and get to see her.I remember when we would listen to trace atkins in her car and sing along with her it was so funny but now its sorrow going into her room every single day and she want even be there for are graduation either but for me she will be there watching me and smileing and saying i told you thats you could do it.

Mrs. Lennon was one of the best teachers ever. She was nice, friendly and thoughtful. It is really sad that she had to have died at such a young age. Atleast she died peacefully and she is now in a better place. I wish that she was here with us still today. We all miss her very much!!!!

Mrs. Lennon was full of energy and life. She made learning fun and always joked around in our classes. I am a student at TJMS and I am on the icons team. Mrs. Lennon was not only a teacher but a best friend to all of the students on her team. She helped out with problems at home and if we didn't have lunch money she would spare us money. Mrs Lennon was the best science teacher I have ever had. Lee Ann and I met when our daughters were in Kindergarten together, dance together and Daisy's together. We spent a lot of time running in the same circles that year stopping periodically to have a drink at Panara Bread or share a car ride to wherever we were headed. Lee Ann was one of the dearest friends I have ever had!!! She was the kindess, most sincere person I have ever been fortunate enough to have known and she was a GREAT mom! I have been devastated by her death and will forever miss her!! I want Stacey and Grace to know that Kayla, Katelyn, Lou and I are thinking about them constantly and we are here for you if you need anything.

Lee Ann transformed every life that she touched. She had a magical smile about her that let every one know every thing was going to be okay. Even in the chaos of a middle school field trip, she always found a calmness within herself. I will miss her laughter in the halls at Jefferson.

I'd like to express my deepest sympathy to your family. I met with Mrs.Lennon, as an 8th grade teacher on the 8th grade trip, and became great friends with her as a teacher to a student. When I heard the news I was shocked and quiet. I didn't know what to say, but now I do and I thank god for that. I know that TJMS will truly miss her advice and kindness. Most people did not realize what a true friend I had in Lee Ann. She was the only colleague that, because of her nursing background, truly understood the problems I still have with a neurological disorder. I worked with Lee Ann on technology projects at Jefferson Middle School. She and her students developed webpages on endangered species this year. I will remember Mrs Lennon's wide, bright eyes and her calm and caring nature with her students.
Another memory of her sticks out in my mind--It is of her coming to my Christmas Tree lot with her daughter and husband this past year. And, as sick as she was at that time--just wanting to have a Christmas Tree for her family to enjoy. We will miss her smile and kind, giving nature at our school!

I first met Lee Ann when I began to teach her daughter, Grace, horseback riding lessons. Lee Ann loved horses and rode as a child. She always came early before Grace's lesson to help me out in any way she could. She loved to watch Grace ride and it gave me great joy to see the happiness this brought her. Although I have not seen Lee Ann in 20 years she is forever part of my childhood memories. She and I went to school together, skated together, and just spent time together. Recently, I had just reconnected with a mutual friend who had told me where Lee Ann was working and a bit about her life and I had plans to contact her and rekindle our friendship. My family and I would like to share our deepest sympathy for your tragic and sudden loss. Lee Ann and I worked together at Jefferson Middle. She and I shared lesson plans, long talks, endless Science workshops, and laughter. When she entered the teaching professon I was assigned to be her Mentor. Her dedication and attention to detail made her seem more like a seasoned veteran than a novice in front of the classroom. We felt blessed to have her on the staff. She touched the lives of hundreds of students, my daughter Morgan included. Through them, Grace, and her extended family, she lives on. What a wonderful life to celebrate !
