Olean Varner Obituary

VARNER HIGH POINT Olean Hucks Varner Feb. 7, 1924 - March 4, 2013 On March 4, 2013, Olean left behind the pain and suffering of this world and moved on to be with her savior Jesus Christ. Olean was born February 7, 1924 in High Point, NC to Beulah and Benjamin Hucks. Olean was the youngest daughter in a family of twelve children. She is preceded in death by both parents, nine brothers and sisters, and one son, Larry Varner. Surviving is her husband of 65 years, Don Varner Sr., two sons, Donnie and wife Judy, Wayne and wife Marcia, and two brothers, Earl and Brantley Hucks. She was blessed with six grandchildren and fifteen great grand-children. Olean worked beside her husband Don as they risked all in opening the family business, Varner Electric Inc. She was office manager for many years. After retiring she devoted most of her time helping with her grandchildren and spending time with family and friends. Olean loved to dance and with her partner Don spent many happy years on the dance floor. The time together and friendships established were precious to them both. Olean was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church in High Point where she was a member of the McFarland Sunday school class and many women's organizations within the church. She was diligent in raising her children in a Christian home and stressed regular church attendance and worship. Olean was a beautiful lady with a great smile and will leave a void in the hearts of all who knew her. Now all pain and doubt are gone. She is smiling into the glorious face of Jesus and is again that lovely and vibrant lady we remember. A special thank you is extended to the nurses and the entire staff of McEwen House at Maryfield Pennybyrn Nursing facility. They cared for Olean with compassion and love the last few months of her life. The Varner family will forever be grateful for their total effort in keeping Olean as comfortable and happy as possible. A celebration of Olean's life will be held Saturday, March 9 at 11:00 a.m. in Sechrest Funeral Chapel in High Point with the Reverend Matthew Farabow and Reverend Hubert Brown officiating. Interment will follow the service in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to: Christ United Methodist Church, 1300 N. College Dr., High Point, NC 27262; Pennybyrn Nursing Facility, 109 Penny Rd., High Point, NC 27260; or Hospice of High Point, 1803 Westchester Dr., High Point, NC 27262. To all the Varner's, I wanted to let you know all how sorry I was to hear of Mrs. Varner's passing. I always remember her as having a beautiful smile on her face and always asking how Betty and I were doing and after my daughter Molly was born, asking how she was doing. What a great lady and I know she will be missed but I know she is in a better place.
