Paul Daniels Obituary

DANIELS SALISBURY - Jonas Roosevelt Daniels, 95, died Friday, September 26, 2008 at The Oaks of Forsyth, Winston Salem, NC. Born January 19, 1913 in Davie County, he was the oldest of 10 children of the late Roy Washington and Georgia Peacock Daniels. He was educated in the Davie County Schools. Mr. Daniels was a self employed building contractor of Paul Daniels Construction Company in Salisbury and worked with the Historic Salisbury Foundation. He worked in the W. & J. Sloan Shipyard in Wilmington during World War II. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees, the Building Committee, and served as a Stewart and usher. He was a former member of the Milford Hills Lions Club. His beloved wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Chaplin Daniels preceded him in death on June 13, 2002. Survivors include his daughter, Judy D. Chappell and husband, Jerry of Clemmons; brothers, Duke Daniels of Statesville and Lindy Daniels of South Fork, CO; grandson, Dr. David Thomas Chappell of Ann Arbor, MI, and nephew, Tom Brown of Winston-Salem. Graveside Services will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at City Memorial Park with the Rev. Mark Portis, Assistant Pastor of Clemmons United Methodist Church, officiating. Memorials: Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Alzheimers Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC 28215, or First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 207 S. Church St., Salisbury, NC 28144.

Dear Judy,
Larry and I were so sorry to hear about your Dad. He will be building houses in Heaven. He was a wonderful man and did so much to help other people. We will miss him.

Judy,

I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. I can see Daddy and your Dad talking at the fence to each other. We never could figure out how Daddy could understand your Dad so well since Daddy couldn't hear well, but somehow he did!

I also remember the time that I was supposed to come home from school and go to your parents house - I guess I was in the 1st or 2nd grade. Instead, I hid on the other side of our house and had your parents and mine worried about me!
