I am saddened to hear of this tragic news. Baker was a good friend to me at Woodberry and I regret that I have not been there for him in recent years. It is so easy for time to slip away and to lose touch with those special people who have had such a positive influence. Baker was truly a remarkable person and he will no doubt be missed. My condolences to the Crawford family.

My condolences to the Crawford family, I am so sorry to hear this news. Some of my earliest memories were playing with Baker and all of our days at Summit and OTC. He was able to see the good in people and had such a shining spirit in his eyes. I know he is loved and missed.

I was stunned and saddened to learn of Baker's passing. I, too, am a Woodberry Forest graduate, graduating a year behind Baker. He was, quite possibly, the kindest person I knew at school. Never an unkind word about anybody, never an angry moment. He always had a smile and he was always genuninely happy to see you. He will be missed sorely by any who were fortunate enough to know him in his all-too-brief time here. I wish the Crawford family peace and healing in their time of sorrow.

I admired Baker throughout high school at Woodberry but found him as a true mentor during our time together at the Phi Gamm house in Chapel Hill. Guided by common sense (a rare commodity in that venue) and an understated kindness, Baker could connect on a plumb line through the various forms of undergraduate self-mythologizing of many around him, myself included. It was a model of maturity I've striven for ever since. My condolences to the Crawford family.

I have to echo so many of the adjectives already used in these entries--kind, gentle, unique, a bright light. I spent a few years at Woodberry Forest with Baker and he certainly was all of those things and more. It was so easy to like Baker, because he was just so incredibly nice.

High school can be an interesting place, with so many people trying so hard to find their niche and fit in, often at others' expense. The best thing about Baker was that he had no hidden agenda, he sought nothing at the expense of others, and was just a pure, kind soul, always true to himself.

Empathy is a characteristic lacking in so many people, especially in high school seniors. Baker had enough for our whole school. God Bless.

I have the best memories of babysitting for Baker at Sea Island in 1980. He had a great childhood and a great family. He was very loved and will be missed. I hope my mom is welcoming him with open arms in a happier life ever after! I love you all.

I am so sorry to hear this sad news. Baker was a regular presence in my childhood from age 4 until 15, and I have many fond memories of our times together. I remember him as a gentle and kind person with an excellent sense of humor. He was always very welcoming to me - when I ran into him in Chapel Hill after we hadn't seen each other for several years, he invited me right away to have lunch with him. I am grateful to have known him.

I just heard the news from Wes Davis. Baker was my best friend as a child and I have many happy memories of spending time with him as a boy. The last time I saw him was at a Summit School reunion when we were about 26 years old. The tall quiet kid with that beautiful red hair. He was our tight end on the Summit football squad and played John Darling in our fourth grade production of Peter Pan. My grandfather taught him how to water ski at Lake Norman when we were 9 years old. I have many fine memories of time spent with this sweet man. Rest in peace, old friend.
