Ruby Jane Cranford Thurman

Ruby Thurman Obituary

THURMAN KING - Mrs. Ruby Jane Cranford Thurman, 91, widow of Mr. Reggie Ray Thurman of King, departed this earth Saturday July 5, 2008. Ruby was born in Davidson County on Nov. 22, 1916, to the late Wilson Lee and Melissa Jane Griffin Cranford. She was a homemaker and retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. Ruby faithfully attended church at Pilot View Holiness and Mount Olive Baptist as long as her health permitted. Our Mother' s most special joys in life included her grandchildren, tending her flower gardens and sewing, especially embroidery. She also loved singing gospel music with her children at area churches. She was predeceased by her son, U.S. Army Spec. E-5 Charles Ray "Pete" Cranford, killed in the Vietnam Conflict; granddaughter Robin Edwards; grandson Randy Stewart; grandson Brandon Coble; also sons-in-law Don Edwards, Gray Stewart and Royce Moser; and a brother, Hobart Cranford. Ruby is survived by five daughters, Shelby Jean and Alton Coble of Kernersville and Jo Stewart, Pat Moser, Carolyn and Joe Doss and Penny and Gary Hutchens, all of King; 11 grandchildren, Cathy Edwards, Chris (Terri) Edwards, Lynn (David) Byrd, Charles (Kristen) Edwards, Toni Ann Coble, Cindy Carter, Phillip Moser (Nancy), Tim (Teresa) Moser, Felisa (Albert) Scales, Thad (Stephanie) Moser and Scott (Jennifer) Doss; 18 great-grandchildren, Danielle, Travis, Michael, MacKenzie, Matthew, Maddi, Robin, Kyle, Jordan, Zachary, Jake, Jesse, Kelvin, Christian, Phoebe, Becky and Jacob; five great-great-grandchildren, Cody, Abbi, Iain, Aaron and Kylie; also a surviving special friend and cousin, Nellie Morgan. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, at Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Jim Saul officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 7, at Mountain View Baptist Church, and other times at the home of Pat Moser at 6429 Highway 66 South (corner of Mountain View Road and Highway 66), King. No parent could ever have more devoted children ("Buddies") than Penny and Gary through the years. Mother never had to ask for anything; somehow, they always knew her needs and gladly took care of everything with smiling faces and happy hearts - always wanting to do more. Mother' s "Boyfriend" was Gary, but she will forever be Penny' s "Baby." Floral tributes will be accepted, or memorials may be made to a charity of the donor' s choice. Cox Needham Funeral Home of Pilot Mountain is assisting the Thurman family.
