Ruth Liebert Obituary

LIEBERT WINSTON-SALEM - Ruth Myers Liebert, 95, passed away peacefully "on the wings of love" at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, with her devoted children: Stephen Myers Liebert and Julie Liebert Dornberger, at her side in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She joins in Heaven her cherished husband, Joseph Liebert, who preceded her in death. She was born November 15, 1914, in Francesville, Indiana to Roy and Edith Myers. After surviving an airplane accident in 1935, she moved to Chicago, Illinois. She married June 30, 1949, and bore her two children there before moving to San Diego, California. The family moved next to Graham, North Carolina then to 29 Palms, California. Three more moves followed: Hingham, Massachusetts and Camarillo, California before settling in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for the next 41 years. She always referred to these moves as "educational experiences." A love of her family dominated her life. In addition to her immediate family, including her adored grandson, John Zachary Dornberger and wife, Melissa Anne Peiser; she is survived by eight beloved siblings: Mabel Brown, Alyce Onken, Virgil (Rachel) Myers, Gwen Godbout, Jeanne Hawn, Maudeline Allyn, Norma (John) Hammell and Donald Myers, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Her brother, Stanley Leon Myers died in infancy. She had a passion for "collecting" and was an accomplished painter. Her patience, cheerfulness, and desire to always make things better for others will be missed. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Memorial Service on Saturday, February 27, at 10 a.m. at First Christian Church, 192 E. Lyman Avenue, Francesville, Indiana 47946. Burial will then take place at the Ponchatoula Cemetery in Ponchatoula, Louisiana. The family requests donations be sent to the caring people at Hospice & Palliative Care Center, Attn: Finance Department, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27103.

I'm sorry for your loss of your dear Mother. Our Fathers worked together at Western Electric and we also lived in many of the locations your family did. I remember visiting your home, in California and first seeing her doll collection. It was exquisite and I've never forgotten it! Your Mom was so gracious and patient 'introducing' her collection to us. I grew up in a family of boys but my Mom and I loved dolls. She always wanted to collect dolls. Ya'll are very fortunate to have had her with you for such a long time...may your memories give you comfort as you adjust to life without both your parents. Your heritage is rich with stories. Sincerely, Gail Fisher Burton, for the family of Burt and Jessie Fisher '94 and '93.
