Mr. Samuel L. Shore, 76, of 139 N. Wheeler St. departed this life Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after an extended period of illness. He was born Feb. 17, 1928, in Pfafftown to the late Viola Beatrice Shore. He attended Carver High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II. Until his health failed, Mr. Shore was a faithful member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the deacon and trustee boards. He retired from Browning-Ferris Industries as operations manager. Mr. Shore was a member of James H. Young Masonic Lodge No. 670, PHA, King Solomon Consistory No. 64 and Sethos Temple No. 170. He was Past Master of his lodge and Past Potentate and Past Imperial Deputy of the Oasis of Sethos Temple. The memory of Mr. Shore's life is left to be cherished by his wife of 59 years, Mrs. Margaret Matthews Shore; his children, Mrs. Velma Shore (Clarence) McMillian, the Rev. Samuel Eugene Shore of the home, Robert Dean Shore of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Cynthia Shore (James) Bradshaw; a very devoted granddaughter, Ms. LaSha Davis; nine other grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, James Thomas (Shirley) Matthews of East Bend; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Nellie Weber of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Mamie Jarrett of the city; two special uncles, Mr. Cranford Shore of the city and Mr. Paul Hillery Shore of Salisbury; a loyal friend, Mr. Clark G. Hanner Sr.; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert E. McGowens officiating. Masonic rites will be given following the service. Interment will be in Bethlehem AME Zion Church Cemetery in Pfafftown. The family visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today, Aug. 1, in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. Shrine and Consistory rites will be given at 6:30 p.m. today, Aug. 1, at the funeral home. (Clark S. Brown & Sons)
