It is with a mix of sadness and celebration that we announce the passing of Barbara Anne Shore, born on May 4, 1936, in Gaston County, North Carolina. Barbara peacefully left us on March 9, 2026, at the age of 89, surrounded by the love of her family.
Barbara was a vibrant spirit who left an indelible mark on the lives she touched. She dedicated an impressive 36 years to Duke Energy, where her keen eye for detail and her passion for making any space beautiful shone through in every project she undertook. A true creative at heart, she could transform a room into a work of art, earning her many admirers and friends along the way.
Travel was one of Barbara's greatest joys, and she cherished her trips to Hilton Head and Paris, where she created countless memories against stunning backdrops. She had a knack for bringing joy and laughter wherever she roamed, and her zest for life was infectious.
Barbara was also a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Gastonia, where she sang beautifully in the choir, sharing her love of music with fellow congregants. Her faith enriched her life and the lives of those around her, and she made an impact that will not soon be forgotten.
Barbara is survived by her loving daughter, Kimberly Ward; son, Bruce Shore (Kelly); grandchildren, Lauren Jackson (Christian), Brianna Ward, Kaitlin Shore, and Connor Shore; great grandchildren, Kyan Jackson, Landon Ward, and Braylin McLendon. Together, they all shared a bond that was celebrated through laughter, love, and the creation of a home filled with warmth.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Bessie Wells; sister, Elizabeth Faye Stewart.
In her honor, a memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Gastonia on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM, with a visitation preceding the service at 1:00 PM. Friends, family, and anyone whose life was touched by Barbara are invited to celebrate her extraordinary life.
As we remember Barbara, let us hold on to the beautiful memories, the laughter, and the love she so freely gave. Though she may be gone, her spirit will forever inspire us to embrace life with the same grace and joy she embodied.
