Thomas Wade Burkhead Jr.

BURKHEAD CANDOR -Mr. Thomas Wade (Tom) Burkhead, Jr. age 78 of Candor, NC died Tuesday, January 20 at Autumn Care of Biscoe. Mr. Burkhead was born October 18, 1930 in Hoke County to Thomas Wade Burkhead and Ora Maxwell Burkhead. He was a graduate of Candor High School, Pfeiffer Junior College and earned his B. A. degree in Journalism and Masters degree in Education from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He retired in 1993 after teaching 7th and 8th grades for thirty seven years at both Candor School and East Montgomery Middle School. He was a member of Candor United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, a Sunday School Teacher and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He was an army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of the NCAE and the Montgomery County Association of Retired Teachers. Mr. Burkhead is survived by a son, Steve Burkhead and wife Beth, a daughter Debra Beroth and husband Michael all of Winston-Salem; by grandchildren, Matt Burkhead of Salem, Virginia and Alex Burkhead and Anna Beroth both of Winston-Salem. Mr. Burkhead had a passion for East Montgomery High School, Pfeiffer and Carolina athletics and especially enjoyed watching his grandsons play on their teams from elementary school years on through college. He was Matt and Alex' s biggest fan rarely missing one of their games. A graveside service for Mr. Burkhead will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 24 at Candor Town Cemetery conducted by Rev. Deborah Wilkins. Following the graveside service the family will see friends at Candor United Methodist Church, 203 S.
