Thomas B. Hamilton, 98, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2021. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama to John S. Hamilton, Sr. and Ola M. Hamilton. Tom was married to Vera M. Hamilton, whom he met while attending midshipmen's school at Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, for 60 years before her passing in 2005. He was fortunate to then have a loving relationship with Leta Duffin from 2006 until her death in 2014. Tom served in the Navy as an LTJG during World War II, from 1943 to 1946. Following the war, he graduated from Auburn University in mechanical engineering. Tom retired from Combustion Engineering, as a director, after 34 years in 1982. He was certified as a Professional Engineer (PE) and served as president of the local PE Chapter. After locating to Winston-Salem in 1989, Tom has been an active member of Mt. Tabor Methodist Church, serving in many capacities and was regularly found cooking breakfast for the Methodist Men. He volunteered in the community with Habitat for Humanity, Children's Home, and Children's Museum. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #289 and the Oasis Shrine Temple in Charlotte. Tom was an avid golfer, bowler, and woodworker well into his 90's. He is survived by his son, Thomas E. Hamilton, wife Linda, and daughter Peggy Tanger, husband Chelton, grandchildren Christy Zellman, (Karl), Greg Hamilton (Laura), Kyle Hagen, Bethany Wagner (Eric), and great-grandchildren, Cole and Becket Zellman and Logan Wagner. A celebration of Tom's life will be held at Salemtowne on Wednesday, May 26 at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor Methodist Church or Shriner's Children's Hospital.
