Timothy Patrick Dillon, 45, passed away Thursday morning, May 25, 2006, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born in Winston-Salem. He graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in 1979 and from East Carolina University. Since graduation, he worked closely with his father and brother at the Dillon Insurance Agency on Brookstown Avenue in Winston-Salem. He actively served on the Board of Directors of Summit School and the Winston-Salem National Little League and was a member of the Lions Club. Tim was an amazing man to everyone who knew him. He was a loving, strong and protective husband and father. Tim was the father that every child would dream to have. Tim's positive attitude, selfless ways and infectious smile made him a joy to be around. Tim found the good in everything and everybody and could light up a room of young and old alike. Tim was the joy of his family and friends since the day he was born and will be deeply missed by all. Tim will be missed most by his devoted wife, Suzanne Via Dillon; and their children, Alexander and Patrick. He was preceded in death by his father, John Joseph Dillon Sr. Surviving are his mother, Joan W. Dillon; sister Dinah Bland and her husband Jack of Richmond Va.; sister Mandy deGrazia and her husband Iano of Florence, Italy; brother Joe Dillon and his wife Paige; sister Amy Hough and her husband Michael; and brother Ted Dillon and his wife Joycelyn. Also surviving him are his Uncle Pat Dillon of Savannah, Ga.; numerous cousins; his Aunt Chris Mills of Duluth, Ga.; and sisters-in-law Elizabeth Smith of Atlanta, Ga., and Julia Marshall. He also leaves behind 16 nieces and nephews who thought he was the greatest. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 27, at Vogler & Sons on Reynolda Road. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 28, at Centenary United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Winston-Salem National Little League, P.O. Box 24393, Winston-Salem, NC 27114-4393.

Tim was one of the nicest and likeable guys you could know as many others have stated. We always got into talking about our cars and bikes when I stopped by. I will miss our conversations.
I am truly sorry that Tim is gone and know that he will be missed by everyone who has come in contact with him over the years. He really was a remarkable person.
My best to his family and friends in the future.

Dear Dillon Family,
Our family first met Tim about 10 years ago. I called him about some insurance and before our conversation was over I felt like I had found a special friend. We did not find out about your families loss till June 16th. I just could not believe it. I know he will be greatly missed by the people that knew him. I met his boys (his pride & joys) one time when Tim brought them to our shop to get his 4 runner fixed. He was very proud of his boys & his wife. You are all in our prayers and if there is anything we can do let us know.

Dear Dillon Family,
So very sorry to hear of the way-too-young death of Tim. My heart is troubled and I know you all must be so sad. Tim was such a great force or life. My experiences with him were limited, but I know that on a professional level he made every attempt to be authentic and on a social level he was irrepressible. My few memories make me smile. I hope your memories are comfort to you now and the thought of Tim brings laughter to you soon. I knew Tim through his sister Amy, who I knew through Jenni McInnes Coolidge.

Dear Dillon Family -
Please accept my condolences on your incredible loss. Tim was a cheerful and optimitistic person who clearly loved his wife and family, his community and his work.
It has been many years since I lived in Winston-Salem yet I have warm memories of my early teen years with Tim and others eating french fries and playing cards at the pool snack bar when our parents thought we were getting fresh air and exercise, and other sophomoric antics that I can only compare to the Little Rascals episode where the kids take over the golf course.
And I am grateful to Tim and Gordon May who dragged me around Lake Norman one summer behind the boat until I finally learned how to slalom ski on one and stay up!
I last saw Tim in the mid 1980s at The Lighthouse Restaurant downtown, just after he'd started working with his father and brother. We talked over lunch and he was absolutley beaming when he told me he'd just met the love of his life - Suzanne.
Tim clearly lived a wonderful and fulfilling life and he has so many who love him and who will miss him.
Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless You.

I'M SITTING HERE THINKING OF TIM, AND I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE HE'S GONE. I WAS HOPING I WAS HAVING A BAD DREAM AND THAT I WOULD WAKE UP AND THIS NEVER HAPPENED. I WORKED WITH TIM AND JOE FOR NINE YEARS AT HIS DAD'S INSURANCE OFFICE. I LEFT AND I CAME BACK ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. IT FELT LIKE I WAS COMING HOME BECAUSE THEY WERE LIKE MY SECOND FAMILY. WHEN YOU WORK WITH SOMEONE EVERYDAY FOR YEARS YOU BECOME A FAMILY BECAUSE YOU SPEND MOST OF YOUR TIME AT WORK. I MISS HIM SO MUCH. YOU COULD BE HAVING THE WORST DAY OF YOUR LIFE AND SOMETIME DURING THE DAY TIM WOULD DO OR SAY SOMETHING THAT WOULD MAKE YOU LAUGH. YOU COULDN'T BE AROUND TIM WITHOUT SMILING BECAUSE HE WAS ALWAYS SMILING. ALL OUR CUSTOMERS LOVED HIM. A CUSTOMER WOULD GO INTO TIM'S OFFICE TO GET A POLICY AND THEY WOULD BE IN HIS OFFICE FOR A HOUR. IT ONLY TAKES ABOUT 15 MINUTES TO WRITE A POLICY, BUT TIM DIDN'T JUST WRITE YOU A POLICY, HE GOT TO KNOW YOU. YOU LEFT HIS OFFICE THINKING YOU WERE ONE OF HIS BEST FRIENDS. HE TOOK CARE OF HIS CUSTOMERS AND MADE SURE THAT WE DID. EVERYBODY THAT CAME IN CONTACT WITH TIM BECAME HIS FRIEND. WE WILL ALL MISS HIM BUT HE WILL ALWAYS BE ALIVE IN OUR HEARTS. TO HAVE KNOWN HIM WAS TRULY A BLESSING. MY HEART GOES OUT TO ALL THE DILLON FAMILY.

When I first moved to the Winston area, around twenty years ago, I was refered to Tim for my Auto Insurance. And over these past 20 years, every time that I would see Tim, be it in his office, walking down the street or having lunch at the West End Cafe, he would always treat me as if I were family. If you meet 1 person in your life like Tim, consider yourself blessed. If I had to make a list of the 10 greatest human beings that I have met in my 40 years on this planet, Tim would be #1. My prayers are with his family.

I am writing again to express how awesome it has been to read how wonderful of a man Tim was to so many, many people!!!! My heart aches for the family's pain! I wanted to add how my mom will be taking Tim under her wing in heaven and making sure that he is at peace and comforted by his father. I pray for you all daily and believe you will recieve the comfort that only the Lord can provide. He truly was a gift to this world.

Tim and I were high school friends and I was shocked and saddened to hear of his death. At our 25th high school reunion, Tim was proudly displaying pictures of Suzanne and their boys- it was quite obvious he was a true family man! My thoughts and my prayers are with his family and his many friends at this difficult and very sad time. Tim's dynamic magnetism and winning smile, along with his kind spirit will always be remembered. The world has lost a special person.

I just found out today that Tim had passed away. It was on channel 12 news was showing the ball field being named after him. I had the pleasure of dealing with him through the insurance agency. He was always pleasant and easy going. We talked many times about all topics. To say the least I'm so much in shock. The family is in our prayers.

The Dillon Family,
Sending prayers to the Dillons as you celebrate Tim’s life and heal in your loss. Tim was one of those people that made everyone around him feel so special. He was the “cool” big brother of Amy and Ted I recall in visits to their house while growing up in Winston. I am so glad my husband, Channing had a chance to meet him. He and I send our heartfelt sympathy to Suzanne and their children, the Dillon family and the many friends who adored Tim.

My family and I only knew Tim by aquaintance of James and Hinton Hudson over a period of years. Two years ago on New Years I had the pleasure of introducing him to my family and children at a New Years Eve party that I will always remember. Although we were not friends in the sense of so many that Tim had come to know in his life, I always admired and respected everything he accomplished from his work to his friends and especially his family.

I too went to RJ Reynolds with Tim,
He was always trying to help solve my problems simple or otherwise. He'd have this "2nd grade simple" answer for what ever was troubling me,and we'd laugh. I simply can not find the words..I am so deeply moved by the memory of his contagious smile, which he was so generous to infect everyone with. He was truely a kind and gentle soul. He will always be remembered with great warmth. We are all better people because we knew him. My heart goes out to his family that I know will forever miss him.
May you find the strength.

Dear Suzanne, Zander and Patch,
Words can not express the deepest sympathy that we feel for you all. "Mr Tim", as we called him, was such a wonderful guy and always brought so much fun and laughter to our home each year when he would come for the "annual hunt".
For almost 12 years, we opened our home to Tim and others he would bring to base out of our little home to fish, hunt and cook all night. Each and every trip, he would arrive in the middle of the night after getting lost on I40. Coming late was his signature. The girls would wait like they were waiting on Santa Claus to come. I am always reminded of him as all my scissors still have dove feathers in them!
Tim will be truly missed by me and the girls. He was a good friend to me, always lending a listening ear and a word or two of advice. Thank you for sharing him with us each year and especially for sharing the "boys" last Labor Day. Liesel and Lainey had a great time watching them learning the ropes from the big guys.
Our prayers are with you during this time. Liesel has expressed interest in coming to visit the boys one day soon.
"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." Matt. 5:4
In Him, Suzanne, Liesel and Lainey Nix

It is only human to take life for granted. It is also very easy to lose focus on what is truly important. Tragically, there are times in life where we are violently cast to a point that overwhelmingly challenges our ability to accept our own feelings.
There is no understanding for me right now and acceptance will require thought, time and faith.
For now I have my thoughts of Tim. Tim touched and shaped my life more than I could have ever imagined. It is sadly with his loss, that I now realize how deep his friendship reached. Tim made sure that my time with him was more than just time with Tim. Tim brought me into his family and into his world. I have adopted some important Dillon family legacies into my own family because of Tim. Tim's ability to involve you, into what he was involved in, was so seemlessly natural it was unavoidable!
I have a great library of memories with Tim and I know that time will lesson the indescribable loss that I feel. I pledge to honor Tim by adopting his life-loving qualities into my everyday life. I know I will be more enriched and my duties as father and husband enhanced.
If you knew Tim, then you know your life will be better if you continue to keep him in your life. The greatest way to memorialize Tim, is to include your favorite quality Tim shared with you, into your everyday life.

How do you say good-bye to someone like Tim? No doubt everyone has their great "Tim" stories...Mustang Cobra with a 428 Thunder-Jet V-8... the sight of him training for boxing eating 16 oz of plain yogurt! I'll never forget how he grinned his way through the sour bulk of yogurt because his handler had told him it was a good idea. He made it look like something everyone would just LOVE to do. He and zest...the same. As an adult, I knew the professional Tim who helped me with insurance and always took care of things correctly. He was a man doing business...not the result of business running a man. I will always admire this about Tim. I'm grateful for having known him. My condolences to the family.
