Barbara Gregory Obituary

NORTH PORT, FL - Barbara C. Gregory 69, of North Port, FL and formerly of Slaterville, RI., passed away July 25, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Through the battle she always tried to remain positive with her mantra of "living with cancer, not dying of cancer". Born in Newburgh, NY, she was a daughter of Calvin and Etta Mae "Mitchell" Currier. In March of 1987 she married her husband and soul mate John C. Gregory.

Besides her husband Barbara is survived by her sister Peg Breakell and her husband Walter of Venice, FL, brothers Wayne Currier and his wife Terry of Lexington, KY and Calvin Currier of Albuquerque, NM, a stepson Shawn Gregory of Brunswick, ME, stepdaughter Meredith DiCesare and her husband Marc of Slatersville, RI., and grandchildren Spencer, Bryce, Abigail, Molly and Sophia Gregory, and Jameson DiCesare. She also leaves her sister-in-law Maureen Gregory Esty and her husband Dana of Blackstone and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara graduated from Mt. St. Mary College, Newburgh, NY and then received her Master's in Education and Family Counseling from SUNY at New Paltz, NY. After marrying John and moving to RI her career involved positions in higher education at Providence College, Brown University, and Bryant University. She retired from Bryant in 2017 as Associate Director / Manager of Academic Internship Program, Amica Center for Career Education.

Anyone who ever met Barbara were instantly drawn to her because of her warm caring personality and infectious smile. Everyone was special to her whether you were a sibling, a step- mom, an aunt, a colleague or a friend. She wanted to help you in any way she could.

Barbara loved her time with family and enjoyed getting the family to wear crazy hats a certain family gatherings. She and John enjoyed traveling both in the United States and Internationally. Later in life as she became a "golfer", Sunday afternoons at Kirkbrae Country Club for nine and dine became a great way to end the weekend.

She was very involved in the community as well and volunteered in many various capacities. She treasured her involvement in The Slatersville Congregational Church where she and John acted as deacons, and the Stadium Theater Foundation, as one of the "friendly" bartenders to name a few. In 2018 she and John were honored to receive the prestigious Francis L. Lanctot Award for their efforts, including the highly successful "Auction for the Arts". After her retirement she became more involved with the North Smithfield Food Pantry.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the Slatersville Congregational Church, 25 Green St. from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Followed by a celebration of Barbara's life.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the North Smithfield Food Pantry, PO Box 283, Slatersville, RI 02876 in her memory. Please visit www.fournierandfournier.com to send condolences.
