Constance Breton Obituary

Constance Caroline (Gurski) Breton, 89, died at The Eddy Village Green in Cohoes on April 12, 2021. She was the daughter of Caroline (Olech) and Michael Gurski, and was born at home in a house lit by gas light on April 1, 1932 in North Smithfield, RI.
Connie graduated from St. Claire's High School in Woonsocket, RI in 1949. She was employed by General Motors Alliance Corp in Providence as a secretary. Connie would then meet her future husband, Roger Breton, shortly thereafter at a bus stop. She wrote to him dutifully while he served for two years in the U.S. Air Force in North Africa. They were married in 1953 at St. John's Church in Slatersville, RI. They had six children in the next eight years; their only son, David, died as an infant.
In 1967, the family moved to Clifton Park, NY, where Connie was a devout parishioner of St. Edward's The Confessor for the rest of her life. While raising her five daughters, Connie worked for nearly three decades as a secretary to the principal at Shenendehowa Middle School B (later Gowana). She was so devoted to her work that she was known to walk to the campus on snow days when she couldn't get her car out of her driveway.
After retiring, Connie enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending time with "the girls" from the office. She loved her home and was always at her happiest when she was surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and loved her cat "Kitty," who would sit on her lap as she read the newspaper daily. She loved to dance, especially to polka music. Connie was always willing to help others and was generous in so many ways. She will be remembered by many as kind, sweet, and loving.
She is predeceased by her parents, her son David, and her sister Dorothy Stothard. In addition to her husband Roger she is survived by her aunt Wanda (Gurski) Tutaj of North Smithfield, RI; her brother, Thomas Gurski, of Pensacola, FL; five daughters, Kathleen Frakes (George), Mary Breton, Barbara Margolius, Carol Breton, and Elizabeth Marre (Ernie); six grandchildren, Amy Day (Evan), David Margolius (Beth), Michael Margolius (Elizabeth), Caitlin Frakes, Alleigh Roday (Zack), and Adam Marre (Emmanuel); and nine great-grandsons (Jacob, Samuel, Henry, Benjamin, Joshua, Charles, William, Edward, and Holden) and one great-granddaughter (Margo); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A wake will take place Wednesday, April 21 at Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home in Clifton Park from 4-7pm. Mass will be held Thursday, April 22 at 10:00 am at St. Edward The Confessor in Clifton Park. Burial will take place Thursday, April 22 at 12:00pm at Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Catholic Charities, the American Stroke Foundation, or the American Diabetes Association.
Facial coverings, social distancing and capacity limits must be adhered to.
The family would also like to thank all the people at the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes who lovingly cared for Connie as if she was part of their own family.

Connie: I will always remember you as my favorite babysitter. I called you "nunnie" because I couldn't say Connie. One of our adventures was being together during a hurricane. We were together in your house when the wind ripped a very large limb from a tree. I will always remember how you helped a scared nine year old regain his composure. You will always be my favorite babysitter!!

Dear Connie was loved by all the staff in Gowana Jr. High School. She was always cheerful, welcoming, understanding whenever I walked into the office. "How may I help you?" Even though she had much to do, she would listen and tell me she will get right back to me, and she would. I would sometimes ask her how the boss (principal) was today. "Oh, he is fine. I think you might stop back a little later when things calm down," she would advise. She had a quick walk down the hallway, would stay late to get things down, would stuff the mailboxes with the latest bulletin, and would open her heart when I shared some sadness or problem. Connie was the secretary you loved because she radiated kindness and her love every day. Peace to her and to her family.

Mom, I remember coming home from the hospital after being sick, we sat on the bed and you sang to me. I remember the special treats you'd get me when I would go grocery shopping with you. Thank you for those and so many more special moments that just you and I shared.
I love you, miss you. Betsy

Connie, I'll never forget the smiles and kindness you always showed me.
Love you, Ernie
