Eugene Mathias Joly M.D.

PALM COAST, FL - Eugene Mathias Joly, M.D., 88, of Palm Coast, FL, formerly of Wakefield, MA died September 11, at the Stewart Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast, FL.
Born in Manville, RI on December 30, 1927, he was the son of the late Eugene N. and Helen E. (Thibault) Joly. He was the brother of Jeannette E. Strunz of FL (deceased), and Paul J. Joly (deceased) and wife Gabrielle of CA.
Eugene was a graduate of Providence College, Class of 1951 and Georgetown University School of Medicine, Class of 1955. He was an Orthopedic Surgeon for more than 30 years, first in the U.S. Navy and then in private practice in Lynn, MA. Eugene retired from the U.S. Navy in 1965 as LT CDR MC. He was a proud member of the USS General W.A. Mann Association and enjoyed attending numerous reunions. He was a member of the Palm Coast Duplicate Bridge Club, was an avid golfer and loved handicapping thoroughbred horses.
Eugene was the beloved husband of Patricia (Muller) Kelley-Joly. He was the loving father of Eugene J. Joly and wife Siri of CA, J. Michael Joly, M.D. of MD and late wife Marianne, Jeanette M. Narbonne and husband Peter H. of CA, James M. Joly and wife Debra of Wakefield, MA, Virginia A. Simeone and husband Richard J. of Reading, MA, Celia E. Barselou and husband Michael of Haverhill, MA, Rose Marie Joly of NH, Mary-Ellen Dixon and husband Joseph of Ipswich, MA. Step- father of Scott P. Kelley and wife Tara of CO. Grandfather of Anneliese Wyler; Helena Gardner; Eugene L., Joanna, Juliet, Janine and Jeannette Joly; Suzanne, Peter L. and Jennifer Narbonne; Angela DeFrancesco; Renée Dorney; Michael R. and Natalie Joly; Richard R. and Jeanna Simeone; Jacqueline Cusack; Stephen Louks; Eli and Evelyn Duggan; Abigail and Ethan Dixon; and the late James M. Joly. Step-grandfather of "PJ" and Brendan Kelley. He is also survived by his 9 great-grandchildren, aunt Théresè Gamache of RI and nephew Bernie Desrosiers and wife Anne of FL and other nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, MA on Wednesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield, MA at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. Private interment, St. James Cemetery, Manville, RI.
